Our hearts are broken by the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School & Church in Minneapolis. No child, no teacher, no parent should ever have to endure this kind of violence. We grieve with the victims and their loved ones — and we are devastated that yet again our country and our community is left mourning such an unthinkable loss. Flutterby is in the business of hope, transformation, and new life. May the promise of all three bring comfort to those in their deepest grief.

We stand with Annunciation and all of Minneapolis in sorrow, in outrage, and in solidarity. 💙🦋

💫 Welcome to the spinning world, Baby A! When Yahsmene and Andre enrolled in the June-July class, they weren’t too sure they would make it through all five class sessions before baby arrived with a mid-July guess date… And their in intuition was right! An occurence that I have seen countless times in 13+ years. But, you know what’s crazy amazing?! These are the students I hear from the most often! — And always with a note that they used all they learned in “x” number of class sessions to prepare and have their best possible birth. 🤓 Such a great reminder that some prep is better than none, AND that it is never too late to start! Many thanks to this beautiful family for sharing their joy with us. Congratulations! 💫

📣 Let’s talk about changing your medical provider prior to birth. As someone who did exactly that during my second pregnancy, I get how hard it can be. But hear me out. 👂🏻

If any of the following applies, it might be time to switch providers:
• YOU are scrounging and presenting THEM with best evidence-based practices that they discard. 🚮
• They say or do anything using the power of “white coat syndrome” to scare you into or out of decisions. 😰
• Your conversations feel one-sided. 🗣
• Your gut tells you that they are just telling you what you wanna hear/giving you lip service. 🧐
• They cannot quickly provide you with data showing their cesarean birth rate or other rates of interventions. 👨‍💻
• Your prenatal appointments feel rushed. 🏃‍♀️
• Your partner/support person does not feel included. 👫👩🏽‍🤝‍👩🏼👬
• They touch you or examine you without full explanation and consent. 🛑
• You are learning more about evidence-based practice from Google than you are from them. 👩🏼‍💻
• You leave your appointments feeling worse than when you arrived. 🥹

In a world (especially in my home state of MN), where there are so many options for providers and places for birth, use this access to your advantage. It’s “never too late to switch,” but remember, the sooner you make the leap, the more of your pregnancy can be spent under the care of a better fit.
•
Going into your birth feeling stuck in the “fight-flight-freeze cycle” is a real sh*tty way to feel. In fact, it can alter your birth experience in a myriad of ways.
•
In my classes, we talk all about finding alignment between yourself and the right care provider, and how to make truly informed decisions. 💪🏻💻📚
•
After all, as I said, I have been there… and I practice what I preach. 👊🏻

📣 YOU ASKED, WE LISTENED! NEW HYPNOBIRTHING CLASS NIGHT + EARLIER START TIME! 📣

Starting in September, Flutterby’s virtual Hypnobirthing classes are moving from Monday to TUESDAY nights — now with a 6:00 PM start time (30 minutes earlier)! ⏰

That means more time to shake off the Monday stress and ease into a calm, empowering Tuesday evening of learning 🤓— plus, you’ll get to wind down and head to bed 💤 a little earlier after our relaxing end-of-class hypnosis sessions 🧘.

Due mid-Oct thru early December? 👶🏼 The Sept class is for you! Open to allllllllll birthing folks, regardless of where you are birthing or what # pregnancy this is for you. 😊

🥳 13 years ago on 5/4, I filed ‘Flutterby Birth Services’ an an LLC with the MN Secretary of State, and have never looked back! 😱
•
It’s a rich history filled with so many babies, students, clients, and overwhelming gratitude. Time sure flies when you’re having fun! 🦋 What started as strictly Lamaze-based childbirth education quickly evolved to include doula services and Hypnobirthing classes, amongst many other things over the years. My previous vocations included Advertising and Social Services, but I always say that being a doula and educator is the best and most soul-filling job I have ever had.
•
After my mother passed away in late 2011, I was awash in grief and just 7.5 months postpartum with my youngest baby. I decided to pursue a passion that had been brewing under the surface for a while, and threw myself headlong into building something I could pour all of ME into.
•
Flutterby, and all of those who I have met as a result of this business, brought me back to life when I so desperately needed it. I owe them so much. If you are one of those folks reading this, thank you. I cherish you. The Flutterby name/butterfly logo is a nod to this very sense of transformation and rebirth. 🦋
•
These 13 years would never be possible without my husband Travis, who has served as my “silent business partner” all this time. From couriering and interacting with clients, to taking care of the kids’ busy schedules while their mom is teaching or supporting a client (which has sometimes been a lot), he is a pillar in my work. ❤️
•
These years would also not be possible without Mom. When I have hit bumps in the road, I think of what she might say, and it sustains me. If you have taken a class or been served by me as your doula, you have also been touched by Mom.

Oodles of thanks and love to my family and friends who have provided counsel, support, a shoulder to cry on in the challenging times, and lots of referrals. 😘

With Cesarean Awareness month coming to a close, and as we all turn the page on a new month, I want to take the time to acknowledge the doula families, CBE students, and loved ones who have inspired me along the way.
❤️
Those who unexpectedly, after hours or days of labor, had to decide to sacrifice their own body on an OR table for the wellbeing of their baby.
❤️
Those who had to decide ahead of time that a planned cesarean was what’s best - Sometimes it was a straightforward decision; sometimes it involved many sleepless nights.
❤️
Those who were awake, and could feel their loved one and doula behind them.
❤️
Those who were asleep and met their baby after others already had.
❤️
Those who planned and readied for a VBAC and got the birth of their dreams.
❤️
Those who planned and readied themselves, and things didn’t go the way they’d hoped.
❤️
All of you matter. To me, to our community, and to our world. Your courage carried you beyond what most could face. You go right to the edge - Sometimes coming back a bit broken; sometimes healed. Always in my heart. Thank you for bringing life to this world.
