According to a 2018 study 39% of Americans are deficient in Vitamin D. Americans living in northern latitudes, vegans, vegetarians as well as those with IBS, lactose intolerance, dairy allergies and higher levels of melanin in their skin are more likely to be vitamin D deficient. The best way to know if you are Vitamin D deficient is to receive a blood test where a health practitioner will check vitamin D levels in the blood. In general, a good rule of thumb is to target products that offer 1000 IU on the low end to up to 5000 IU on the higher end for daily supplementation.
