Hi everyone, today we will be discussing the importance of being familiar with the speech sound development chart. The speech sound development chart displays a set of speech sounds that children produce at a certain age. Do not be alarmed if your child is not exhibiting these speech sounds at the appropriate age because some children learn at their own pace and depending on their quality of education they are receiving. A child’s first word is averagely produced at 12 months and by the time they are 3 years old they should be 75% intelligible (ability to understand what they are saying). This picture displays the speech sounds that are typically produced by that certain age. If your child is not producing these sounds by these appropriate ages, working repeatedly on these sounds in isolation (individually) using visual cues (giving them a visual of the sound) and auditory bombardment (having them constantly hearing the sound) would be beneficial in working with your child. If you have any questions, feel free to comment below!
