Turns out the real lab surprise wasn’t the controls—it was the boys’ pregnancy tests coming back positive. 🧐
Why are we spinning samples in the Baxter S/P Rotator during the RPR test? 👩‍🔬🧪
The RPR card test uses charcoal antigen that has to stay evenly mixed to give accurate results. If the carbon particles settle, you can get clumping in the wrong spots—or miss a true reaction.

That’s where the Baxter Scientific Products S/P Rotator comes in:

🔹 Keeps the antigen uniformly suspended
🔹 Prevents settling during the 8-minute rotation at 100 rpm
🔹 Ensures flocculation (clumping) is visible if antibodies are present
🔹 Helps us read reactive vs. nonreactive results clearly
