This fact shows that knowledge is power. Even in the toughest conditions, learning can be life-saving. Douglas later became one of the greatest speakers and slave freedom fighters. His message was:

It's worth asking why we want to reverse aging. Are we looking to escape death? Live a longer life with a greater quality of life? What would happen if we cleaned up our environment, habits, and food supply to slow down aging vs. fixing problems we are creating ourselves?

Scientists at Korea University’s College of Medicine have discovered more about how aging spreads in the body. They found that aging isn’t just something that happens in individual cells, it can actually move through the bloodstream.

The main player is a protein called ReHMGB1, which comes from aging, or “senescent,” cells. This protein can travel to healthy tissues and make them act older, slowing down their ability to repair and even hurting muscle performance. In experiments with mice, researchers blocked ReHMGB1 using antibodies, and the mice showed fewer signs of aging and healed faster after injuries.

The study, published in Metabolism – Clinical and Experimental, is the first to show clear proof that aging can spread through blood. By pinpointing ReHMGB1 as the messenger, scientists may now have a target for new treatments that could slow down or even reverse some effects of aging.
