PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

As of July 1, 2025, all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands offer some form of direct access to physical therapy, and the landscape continues to improve with legislation like Texas’s HB 4099, which expands the referral-free treatment period to 30 calendar days starting September 1, 2025. Major insurance providers, such as Aetna, have also removed their referral requirements for physical therapy services, making direct access more accessible.

What is direct access you may ask? In a nutshell, it’s the ability of a patient to go see a physical therapist without a script from a physician.
Why is direct access a good thing for you? Direct access allows for substantial cost savings in healthcare costs, decreased out-of-pocket costs for consumers, and a decrease in opiod use.
