(Post 1 of 3) Last weekend, our officers had the incredible opportunity of attending APhA Annual2026 Conference and Exposition. From award ceremonies and poster presentations to speaker events and serving in the student pharmacist legislative body, our UH chapter engaged with with the organization in a multitude of avenues.

We are grateful for our amazing faculty who continue to advance our profession. Our advisor, Dr. Asias-Dinh, facilitated a CE session on managing complex patient populations through a diabetes case series. Dr. Divya Varkey hosted a Career Opportunities session on HSPAL residencies, guiding student pharmacists through career pathways in health system administration, and Dr. Thornton and Dr. Wanat hosted an informative CE session focused on building research-practice collaborations through effective grant writing.

We congratulate UHCOP alumnus and former Immediate-Past APhA National President Dr. Alex Varkey on completing his term on the Board of Trustees. As the 169th President of APhA and the first Indian-American to hold office, he has championed innovation, well-being, and professional growth for the pharmacy profession, and we wish him the very best as he continues his journey as Senior Director of Strategic Accounts at Visante!

(Post 3 of 3) Finally, our chapter earned national recognition this year! Our 2024-2025 IPSF team received an award for National Outstanding IPSF Activity, which highlights their work on their UK vs US event, Vampire Cup blood drive, donation drive for unhoused individuals, and education events on counterfeit medication. This is our first national award since Operation Immunization in 2019, and we are so proud of Kathryn Preston, Mercy Tadesse, Atefeh Ghane, Qamar Dhafer, and Aya Al Obaidi for all of their hard work. Incredibly well-deserved!

As we approach the end of the year, we are incredibly grateful and proud of everything UHCOP as accomplished thus far, and can’t wait to see what else is in store.

(Post 2 of 3) And with endings come new beginnings! Our Communications Vice President, Emily Nguyen, held a electoral campaign this weekend and was elected as APhA-ASP National President-Elect—our first National Executive Committee officer since Dr. Alex Varkey’s term as APhA-ASP National President. Please wish her luck as she enters this next stage (she pleads as she writes this caption).

We also celebrated outstanding student achievements. Arshia Ghaneian, Senior Chair of Operation SUD, presented her research poster on analyzing cabotegravir prior authorization details in collaboration with Legacy Community Health. Gaby Gaytán, Chapter President and Operación Farmacia Sr. Chair, and Rebeca Pelayo, Operación Farmacia Sr. Chair, both received their National APhAFoundation scholarships!

On March 12, in coordination with Dr. Wallace, Team Operation Heart hosted a P1 BP OSCE practice session to help first-year students prepare for their upcoming assessment 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Students practiced blood pressure technique with one another, reviewed key steps, and built confidence through hands-on repetition in a supportive setting. It was great to see everyone taking initiative and sharpening these foundational clinical skills 💪🩺

Thank you to all the P1s who practiced with us and committed to strengthening essential patient care skills.

To celebrate the last week of Women’s History Month, Operation Reproductive Health is shining a light on women who have shaped reproductive health through research, advocacy, and lived experience.

From advancing genetic discoveries to fighting for reproductive justice and expanding access to care, their impact is still seen today.

Featuring: Mary-Claire King, Loretta Ross, Margaret Sanger, and Anarcha Westcott.
