Before you get upset you are seeing a PA-C, remember that your doctor strategically selected that provider and put him/her in a position to care for you. Saying you don't trust the PA infers you do not trust your doctor. Together we work as a team to extend care to more patients than your doctor could ever handle alone. We spend endless time learning how to navigate patient care and assure we are prepared to handle situations OUTSIDE of our training. The system is here to better help you, I promise.

Insurance is so much more complicated than prior auths. Behind the scenes there are constant negotiations with corporations and hospital systems demanding better reimbursement. This is one of the driving factors for rising premiums. Who benefits more from these negotiations , the physicians treating patients or hospital admin?

Young kids working out continue to squat, deadlift, bench, and row. None of these are bad but they also do not train any twisting or side bending movements. Overtraining in one direction will bring you to my office in 20+ years. Add in some lateral and twisting movements, you'll thank me later. Motion is Lotion.

Rest, relax, refresh. Medicine can be a stressful career, we need to decompress from time to time in order to keep from getting overwhelmed. Golf has long been a favorite pastime for Doctors. For me, the strive for perfection and desire to improve has always kept my interest. The lack of real consequence keeps the stress to a minimum. On the weekends, you can often find me on the course enjoying a round of golf.

When I first meet a patient, I make sure to not only identify where your pain is located but also understand how the pain impacts your life. Whether your pain is affecting your job, social life, s*x life, family life, athletics or fitness, the goal is always to get your function back. I want you to be honest with your progress along the way so we can be sure to reach your goals efficiently.

There is a lot going on in this one image. First the 3 black discs are consistent with degenerative disc disease. Just above and below each disc there is a bright white signal consistent with end plate inflammation. Behind the L3/4 and L4/5 discs there are bulges into the spinal canal.

The moral of this story is you cannot know exactly where back pain emanates from by looking at an image. Not to mention, there are more structures not evaluated in this image that can be seen better in other cuts. The patient's story will give insight to functional limitations and the physical exam will narrow that down further.

If you have back pain, you need a spine doc that can put it all together. One that listens, evaluates and reads their own images. That should be a given but unfortunately that's not the case. If you need this, can help!

Here's a look into a trigger point injection utilized to reduce tightness and spasms in an effort to reduce muscular pain. The patient did great reporting minimal pain during the procedure and immediate relief after! Check in tomorrow for the full procedure video!

*Geniculate Nerve Radiofrequency Ablation*

This is the setup for a procedure to treat knee pain that has not responded to traditional injection therapy, including patients who may have failed surgical intervention. The procedure is typically done under ultrasound or x-ray in about 30 minutes. The geniculate nerves signal sensation from the knee to the brain and this procedure is performed to minimize that signal and improve knee pain.

Busy week. We saw about 140 patients. Performed 23 injections. Ordered another 22 spine injections for the supervising physician to perform. Helped a lot of folks move better this week, back at it again Monday!
