The America First Legal Foundation has asked the EAC to change the National Mail Voter Registration Form to require documentary proof of citizenship, such as a passport, in order to register or update your voter registration.

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) opposes this change because it would create additional barriers to registering to vote, making our democracy less accessible. People with disabilities are less likely to have documents like passports or updated driver’s licenses and often face challenges in obtaining or updating these documents, such as limited access to public transportation.

We have submitted a comment urging the EAC to reject this proposal, and we need your help.

As part of the federal rulemaking process, agencies are legally required to review public comments and they must respond to significant, relevant comments in their final rule. Commenting helps agencies understand on-the-ground experiences, impacts on communities, and the general level of acceptance of a policy. Comments also become part of the administrative record and act as an important accountability measure.

Anyone can submit comments, even anonymously. Comments do not need to be long, even one or two sentences can be impactful.

A message from the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD)

The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is considering whether to grant a request from the America First Legal Foundation that would require people to show a passport or other citizenship document when registering to vote.

This change would impact the National Mail Voter Registration form that the EAC maintains and that all states accept for registration for federal elections.

This change would mean that in order to register to vote or even update your voter registration using the National Mail Voter Registration form, you would have to show additional documents that prove you are an American citizen. If this were the law, only a few types of documents would be allowed, such as passports.

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) opposes this policy as it would create additional barriers for disabled voters, who are less likely to have access to the types of documentation required. Additionally, research has repeatedly shown that noncitizens voting is extremely rare and not a systemic issue.

AAPD has submitted a comment urging the EAC to reject this proposal.

We encourage national organizations, state and local coalitions, and individuals to submit comments.

Comments are due October 20, 2025.

As of December 31st, the premium tax credits for enrollees of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace are set to expire. The result will be a premium increase of over $1,000 annually for many consumers.

Nearly 450,000 New Jerseyans get coverage under the ACA. How will the increase in health care coverage premiums affect you?

Senator Cory Booker has asked the ACI to collect stories from people who are impacted by this. How has ACA benefitted you and your family? Will you still be able to afford healthcare after December 31st? How will the healthcare needs of you and your family be impacted if the tax credits are not renewed?
