Otsego Academy at Pathfinder Village

Otsego Academy at Pathfinder Village Otsego Academy at Pathfinder Village provides a full college experience.

Welcome to Otsego Academy, Pathfinder Village's post-secondary program, where young adults with intellectual disabilities can embrace a love of learning on their path to independence. We offer creative, individualized options that improve preparation for employment for students with disabilities who have completed their high school education. At the same time, attending the Academy strengthens stu

dents' independent living and social thinking skills necessary for life and job success. Research has shown that students with disabilities who participate in post-secondary education are more likely to work in competitive settings, use fewer work-related supports and earn more. At Otsego Academy at Pathfinder Village, our students:

Participate in engaging academic coursework
Enjoy community life in a beautiful village setting
Explore career paths
Find full-time employment
And realize independence! We offer an intensive, two-year post-secondary program focused on pre-requisites for successful, community-based employment. Students will build skills for employment based upon vocational assessments, classroom instruction, job exploration, internships and apprenticeships within Pathfinder Village as well as with select community business partners.

Day Two at the Brighter Futures Conference was a hit! 🎉

Students had an amazing time in their self-advocate sessions with United Dance, Yoga & Mindfulness and 321Go! bringing great energy, movement, and confidence to the day. It was the perfect way to wrap up an incredible experience in Boston for the OA senior trip.

Now it’s time for a well-deserved spring break! ☀️ We can’t wait to see everyone back in two weeks, refreshed and ready for what’s next!

Last week, Otsego Academy students had the pleasure of hosting Colgate Leadership Week 2026 in partnership with Colgate University—and what an incredible week it was!

The week was filled with energy, creativity, and connection as everyone came together to celebrate inclusion and community. From a relaxing paint night, to decorating local gazebos in honor of World Down Syndrome Day, to festive fun celebrating St. Patrick's Day, to hands-on group cooking projects, there was something for everyone to enjoy

Everyone also spent a fun day exploring Cooperstown, got a little messy (in the best way!) with volcano science experiments, and stayed active with games and time in the gym. Each activity brought opportunities to build friendships, try new things, and support one another.

It was truly a week full of laughter, teamwork, and meaningful moments! 💙💛

Leadership Week is in full swing! This week, our Academy students are spending time with peers from Colgate University who are here for Alternative Spring Break. Together, they’ve been trying new activities, collaborating, and stretching their leadership skills.

A favorite Leadership Week tradition continued as the students decorated our local township gazebos in blue and yellow ahead of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21. With yesterday’s strong winds and chilly temperatures, their leadership and dedication to completing their assignments were admirable.

Along the way, the students have become friends through time at Delaware Dorm and activities throughout the Village. Last night, they teamed up to make soda bread and shepherd’s pie as a traditional 3-17 meal, and they joined the Pathfinder community for its St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Today’s schedule is all about collaboration and team-building at The Clark Sports Center and the Cooperstown Escape Room.

We’re proud of the teamwork, community spirit, and leadership growth happening this week.

This morning, our Otsego Academy students returned to The Gatehouse in Morris to share the poems they’ve been working on throughout February. They explored two different themes: “Love Is” and the four seasons. Each student wrote a heartfelt reflection on what love is to them, and also created a separate poem inspired by one of the seasons — capturing the beauty and feeling of that time of year in their own unique way.

We were so grateful to have friends from Pathfinder Village and members of the community come out to support uis.

A special thank you to The Gatehouse for always welcoming us and providing such a warm space for our students to share their creative voices.

Last week, Otsego Academy students returned to a familiar favorite, the Gatehouse in Morris, where they proudly shared the poems they have been working on over the past few months. Friends from Pathfinder also came out to support them and listen to their poems, which made the experience even more special. The students were also invited to read their pieces at Hartwick College, presenting their poetry in front of the college students there. It was an amazing opportunity and a big confidence boost for our young writers.
