Here is some wisdom from my friend and fellow homeopath Cash Leo.
Dear Friends,
I recently overheard someone at Sprouts Farmers Market explaining to a friend that she was taking every homeopathic remedy they sell there for the symptoms of a cold, and it wasn't working. This was hardly surprising to me as this is not how homeopathy works or should be taken. Many homeopathic remedies have interactions with one another: many of them can antidote another, or cause exaggerated symptoms of another. For instance, Chamomillla can be antidoted by Aconite, Nux Vomica, Pulsatilla and a few more while Belladonna can block the action of Aconite, Mercurius Solubilis, and Phosphorus. While homeopathy is a gentle system of medicine, and safer than the long term effects of chemical drugs, it is not without necessity for precautions. In addition, homeopathy is holistic: in order to choose the correct remedy, one must choose the remedy that suits the overall symptoms of the patient. For instance, two people may have the same illness, but one coughs more at 7pm while the other is worse at 9 in the morning and one may be irritable while the other feels restless. These two patients would require two completely different homeopathic remedies in order to recover. Taking multiple remedies for any illness is much like taking Tylenol, Ibuprofen and Advil all at the same time for a UTI: it may ease the pain, but it will not cure the UTI, and could damage one's body in other ways from taking them altogether. One of the foundational rules of homeopathic treatment is the "single dose" or "the minimum dose." This means that for effective treatment, one must take one remedy at a time. If you are not sure which remedy to take- please consult with a practitioner who can help - your body will thank you.
