Wondering how Dr. Mac became certified in animal chiropractic in Oklahoma?

Doctorate of Chiropractics:
• 2–4 years of undergrad (science-focused)
• Earn a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree (3.5–4 years)
• Complete 250+ curriculum accredited credit hours with hands-on training
• Pass 4 National Board exams (NBCE I–IV) totaling almost 20 hours of exam taking + physiotherapy board (optional)
• Get licensed through the Oklahoma Board of Chiropractic Examiners
• Pass a state jurisprudence exam
• Complete continuing education yearly

Animal Chiropractic in Oklahoma 🐾
To work on animals, chiropractors must be qualified to do so.

That includes:
225+ hours of approved coursework + hands-on training
Certification through an accredited Animal Chiropractic Program

Dr. Mac completed her certification at Parker University in Dallas, TX from March through July of 2025.

You can choose to be Board-Certified with the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA) or American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). These require written plus practical exams that occur over 2-3 days, but are NOT required to practice in Oklahoma. Check your state to see their laws!

Continuing Ed:
• Oklahoma: 16 hours / 3 years
• IVCA/AVCA: 30 hours / 3 years

Important:
Without certification, chiropractors may only treat animals with a vet referral and cannot advertise those services in Oklahoma.

Dr. Mac has a Doctorate of Chiropractic, is board certified through the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (cAVCA), and is also nearing completion of her certification in animal therapy while traveling to serve fur friends in Nebraska!

All of this to say that our goal is to help you feel informed and confident when choosing care for your animal. Each state has different laws so be sure to do your research! Feel free to reach out to Dr. Mac if you ever have any questions!

Some thing you may not pay attention to is how your dog sits and the curve of their spine. When Clemmy initially sat, her pelvis is rotated so far under her and her front foot (not seen in picture), is basically touching her back leg. This is due to tightness in her back. After 20 minutes of myofascial release, you can notice that her pelvis is further back, the curve of the spine is better and the distance between her front leg and hind limb (toes) are further apart. One the final photo, you can see the curve has continue to improve and the distance between her toes/continues to grow. Thank you Andie Lanka Emmett for trusting me to help Clemmy feel and move better!

Yes! Our pups with the best outcomes are seen immediately, as we do in human medicine. While every treatment is based on how the dog presents, earliest intervention has the best outcomes. Electrical stimulation (NMES) with early weight bearing and ROM are vital for recovery.
