About me
I am a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic shoulder and elbow surgeon, My clinical focus is in primary and revision total shoulder replacements, reverse total shoulder replacements, the “ream and run” procedure, and advanced arthroscopic reconstruction of complex shoulder and elbow disorders.
I attended the University of Illinois, where I majored in mechanical engineering and worked on projects to redesign medical devices. After graduating in 2002, I went on to medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago, where I was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, awarded to the school’s top medical students. I completed my orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois, where I was elected Chief Resident. I went on to advanced fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the University of Washington, under Drs. Rick Matsen III and Winston Warme.
I take a very personalized approach to the care of my patients. I find it imperative to treat the patient, not the xray. I am a firm believer in shared decision making. Knowledge is power. Dr. W.J. Mayo, M.D. founder of the Mayo Clinic said it best during a commencement address in 1910 at Rush Medical College in Chicago - "The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered". I hold strong to that philosophy.
I have maintained intense interest in the fields of engineering and system/process improvements, postoperative pain and reduction of opioid pain medication, value-based medical care, and the medical care during future long duration space missions.
