Over 90% of the body’s serotonin is produced in the gut, meaning what you eat plays a powerful role in how you feel. Yet most Americans aren’t getting enough fiber to support a healthy gut microbiome.

The good news: even small changes matter. For every 5g increase in daily fiber, you may see up to a 30% reduction in the risk of depression.

Dr. Ogawa, our Naturopathic Doctor, explains how gut health directly impacts mental health, and why small, daily choices can make a meaningful difference.

Spring is a reminder that growth doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in small, intentional shifts over time. The same is true for optimism. It’s not something you’re born with or without. It’s something you can practice.

If you’ve been feeling stuck in negative thought patterns, here are a few ways to begin cultivating a more hopeful mindset:

✔️ Notice your default thoughts — Pay attention to where your mind goes first. Are you assuming the worst or focusing only on what’s going wrong?

✔️ Challenge the narrative — Ask yourself: What evidence supports this thought—and what might I be missing? Often, there’s a more balanced perspective available.

✔️ Create alternative possibilities — Instead of jumping to a negative conclusion, intentionally consider a few other outcomes; ones that are realistic, but more hopeful.

✔️ Focus on what you can control — Redirect your energy toward actions you can take, rather than outcomes you can’t.

✔️ Visualize your “best possible self” — Spend a few minutes imagining your life in a future where things have gone well—where you’re living in alignment with your values. Writing this down can actually help rewire your thinking over time.

Optimism isn’t about ignoring reality, but about choosing a perspective that helps you move forward. And sometimes, that shift is where healing begins.

Stress can have a real impact on how your brain processes, stores, and recalls information.
When stress levels rise, your brain shifts into survival mode. This makes it harder to focus, retain details, and access memories when you need them. Over time, chronic stress can even disrupt sleep, which plays a critical role in memory and mental clarity.

The encouraging news? Stress-related memory challenges may be reversible with the right support. By understanding what’s happening in your brain, you can take meaningful steps toward restoring focus, improving recall, and feeling more like yourself again.

At The Center • A Place of HOPE, our Whole Person Care approach addresses the underlying causes of stress, helping you strengthen both your mental and cognitive well-being. Learn more about how stress affects memory and what you can do about it: bit.ly/42h6Vdy

The joy pets bring into our lives goes far beyond companionship. They can play a meaningful role in mental health and recovery.

From a wagging tail at the door to the quiet comfort of simply sitting beside you, pets offer something powerful: unconditional love, presence, and a sense of connection when it’s needed most.

Research shows that interacting with animals can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, while also encouraging routine, movement, and emotional grounding.
For many, pets provide a sense of purpose and a steady source of comfort—especially during difficult seasons of healing.

In recovery, these small moments matter. They remind us to stay present, to care, and to reconnect with joy. See the full article here: bit.ly/4stUEgS

April is Stress Awareness Month, a time to better understand how stress shows up in our lives and what it may be doing beneath the surface. It's also important to know that not all stress is the same.

Acute stress is short-term—your body’s “fight-or-flight” response to a moment of pressure. It comes on quickly and fades as your body returns to balance.

Chronic stress lingers. It keeps your system activated over time, and can begin to impact your mental health, mood, sleep, and overall well-being.

In this carousel, we break down the key differences, and the signs your body may be under too much stress. At The Center • A Place of HOPE, we help individuals move beyond chronic stress through Whole Person Care, backed by over 40 years of experience.

If stress has become your baseline, it may be time to take the next step. Visit our website to learn more: bit.ly/4tDsMrt
