offering in-person office visits in Edmonds and telehealth visits throughout WA. Telehealth online video counseling services are available. In-person sessions are available on a limited sign-up basis. My work is primarily with adults, adolescents, and teens in individual therapy. My distinct specialty is working with individuals and families affected by mood disorders (bipolar, depression, schizoaffective). I also work with individuals with schizophrenia, PTSD, anxiety, autism spectrum, sexual abuse & assault history, dissociative disorders, psychosis & other related issues & diagnosable psychiatric "disorders". Counseling goals and work with individuals is collaborative. Client identified issues and goals inform the treatment plan. In therapy, relationship issues are often discussed since the complexity and intensity of many of our challenges are manifested and/or rooted in our relationships. My therapeutic approach relies on my client's increased capacity to affect realistic outcomes, and progressively less on the knowledge, training and expertise of the clinician. Goals include, knowledge, acceptance, self-determination and increased awareness of inherent social support and personal strengths and responsibility. Every individual has the capacity to make decisions, to accept and change the most complex, painful, or disturbing challenges in their lives. In the counseling office I rely heavily on a person's existing abilities and strengths, and help them discover or rediscover these qualities if they have lost sight of them.

Attachment Styles is based on Attachment Theory and is one lens we can use to better understand who we are and why we behave the way we do with the people we love.

Attachment styles are fixed patterns of behavior that a child develops by the age of two. Babies whose caregivers can regularly be relied on for comfort and devoted attention tend to have more stable relationships later on. Infants whose caregivers are less attentive are more likely to have more difficulty forming healthy relationships as adults.

It is common as rain to forget where we were and think we haven't grown. It is important to recall the goals and hopes for ourselves when our bodies were trapped in the terrifying cyclical post-trauma system, and see that we have become what we hoped for.

This is a good good mantra to say everyday, or slip it into your meditation if you do that sort of thing. Also, what I've found helpful is, at any moment where you find yourself dwelling in an anxious/fearful/angry manner on people who are dominating the national conversation through their mean and abusive antics, say out loud, "You may want to control my life, but you can never have my soul. That's mine, and you cannot have my soul." If you want to insert names, that can be cathartic, but it's not necessary if you know your intentions are set against specific actions instigated by specific people.

I know things are going on that are mind splitting, scary, and downright Orwellian. Losing our ability to laugh is a signal that we are overwhelmed, and laughing is part of your resistance toolkit. If your body is overwhelmed to the point of freezing in fear, stoicism, or trying to pay attention to too many sources of information, stop and watch something that makes you laugh, or call someone who makes you laugh. Create a You Tube playlist and label it something like "Laugh despite the sh*t show" and add stuff that causes you to lol
