**PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT – SCHOOL ZONE SAFETY**
With school starting next week, the Ganado Police Department wants to remind the community of our school zones, and certain traffic control areas within the school zones. We want everyone to have a safe and happy return to school. When the time comes, please pay attention in the school zones.
When school zone lights are flashing or during posted hours:
• Obey the posted speed limits (20 MPH and 15 MPH zones as marked).
• Watch for children crossing streets or walking near the roadway.
• Stay off your phone and avoid distractions.
To better aware the community, we’ve created a school zone safety map to show speed zones, stop signs, one-way streets, and no-parking areas around our campuses. Please take a moment to review it before the first day of school.
Key reminders:
• 20 MPH Zone (Yellow Highlight): 200–500 blocks of S. Third St. (Hwy 172) when yellow lights are flashing.
• 15 MPH Zones (Orange Highlight): Surrounding streets near the schools during 7:00 AM–4:00 PM.
• One-Way Street (Circled in Red): 300–400 block of W. Devers, west to east only, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM.
• No Parking Areas: Highlighted in Red on the map (from 7:00 AM–4:00 PM). Please be mindful of parking in Fire Lanes or Handicap Spots (Placards required)
• Stop Signs: Four-way and three-way stops marked for safety — come to a complete stop every time. (Red Circles = 4-Way, Yellow Circle = 3-Way)
Let’s work together to make this school year a safe one for all our students. Officers will be actively enforcing school zone traffic laws.
