✨ Living History at JHCHC celebrating 55 Years ✨

Our Co-Founder, Dr. Robert Smith, visited the Dr. James Anderson Health Center to share the powerful history of community health as JHCHC celebrates 55 years of service. The team was honored to capture a moment with living history!

📖 During Freedom Summer of 1964, Dr. Smith witnessed the dire poverty and lack of medical care in Mississippi while treating civil rights workers. He later joined Professor Jack Geiger and Count Gibson in Boston at the home of Mrs. Jackie Owens and Willie Hoover to propose Community Health Centers to the Office of Economic Opportunity. Their vision was approved, leading to the first two Federally Qualified Health Centers in Mound Bayou, MS, and Boston, MA marking a historic breakthrough in equitable healthcare.

Today we celebrated our amazing seniors with music, games, wellness resources, laughter, and so much joy at our Senior Skip Day 🎉.

Jackson Hinds Healthy Start was excited to participate in the Junior League of Jackson’s Stewpot Lunch and Learn series this week. Our team shared valuable education on health and wellness, as well as information about the many services offered by Jackson Hinds Comprehensive Health Center. It was a wonderful opportunity to engage with students, answer questions, and promote healthy lifestyles in our community.

We were proud to provide bags, treats, and educational materials to over 150 students during the event. It was a great time of learning, connection, and service, and we look forward to continuing to partner with organizations like the Junior League to support the health and well-being of our community!
