• WHAT ASPECT OF THE FIELD INTRIGUES YOU THE MOST?

My initial intrigue in the field of Speech-Language Pathology was through working with children with special needs. However, the graduate program has expanded my knowledge of the various populations we can serve in our field. The different populations and types of treatment we can provide from case-to-case is what I find most intriguing. We have such diverse forms of treatment, and it is exciting to learn about the different types of care we can provide.

• WHAT STRENGTHS DO YOU BRING TO THE PROGRAM?

I have had personal experience of attending speech therapy for many years while growing up and know first-hand the impact it has on individuals.

My personal strengths include my personability and my open-mindedness. As an individual, I am always seeking the best for those around me, and this field provides me with the opportunity to positively impact others.

• WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT SIUE’S PROGRAM?

My favorite part of our program is the diversity of populations that attend the SIUE Speech-Language Hearing Center. During my graduate school experience, I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of cases, all with their own distinctive needs for therapy. Paired with the insight from our clinical supervisors, the clinical experiences provided by SIUE has improved my confidence and better prepared me for externships.

Pets: I have three dog’s at home named Indra, Lakota, and Koloa!

I am passionate about working with pediatric populations, autism, and complex communication needs. I am very interested in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), watching individuals learn to express themselves and connecting with others. Supporting these individuals in finding their voice is something I love the most!

I’m someone who adapts quickly and stays calm when things don’t go as planned. Whether that’s adjusting a session plan or trying a new approach to better support my client’s needs. I also have a strong growth mindset and genuinely enjoy learning from feedback and new experiences.

One of my favorite parts of our program is how close our cohort is. We really support and uplift each other and that makes It such a positive environment to learn in. The faculty and staff are also incredibly helpful and approachable, which makes a big difference. It feels like everyone genuinely wants you to succeed!
