Fighting childhood hunger by preparing and distributing healthy meals to local children. Founded by David Tevet, Owner, Ollies Restaurant.

More then 1 in 4 children in the United States do not receive nutritious food on a consistent basis. In Luzerne County, more then 10,500 children are food insecure. Children who lack a nutritionally balanced diet are more likely to exhibit behavior problems, poor school performance, and impaired cognitive development.

What a special evening celebrating the people who make this mission possible! 🍽

Our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner is a small way to say thank you to the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and heart to Dinners for Kids. As a 100% volunteer-run organization, everything we do is powered by people who choose to show up, week after week, for the children we serve.

The room was filled with warmth and genuine connection. Volunteers shared stories, laughed together, and spent time with others who understand the heart behind this work. It was a reminder that this mission is not just about meals, but about the people who make it happen.

We were also honored to recognize the late Howard J. Grossman, with the Legacy of Community Impact Award. Rabi Kaplan delivered a beautiful tribute. Howard's generosity and dedication to this community, the nonprofits in it, and especially to DFK, left a lasting mark that continues to inspire us. We will miss Howard and his kind heart.

The evening was made even more meaningful by a surprise generous donation from Carol and her youth groups, Our Lady of Victory and Gate of Heaven Church. Their thoughtfulness and effort truly meant so much! Thank you for choosing to support DFK's mission.

An evening like this reminds us that when people come together with purpose, something truly special happens. 💚

This is no April Fool's joke… this is real impact happening all month long! 💛

Dinners for Kids is proud to partner with Weis Markets this April to help fight childhood hunger right here in NEPA. Every time you shop, you have the opportunity to round up at checkout and turn everyday purchases into meals for children who need them most.

You can support this effort at six participating locations: Dallas, Nanticoke, Tunkhannock, Plains, Duryea, and Mountain Top. Those small round-ups add up quickly and help ensure children in our community have consistent access to dinner.

Congratulations to Shawna Williams, Dinners for Kids Board Member, on being recognized at Gather Community Space’s Women’s History Month Celebration and Awards! 🏆

With more than 15 years of experience as a dedicated social worker, Shawna has committed her career to supporting children, families, and vulnerable populations across our community. Her work spans mental health, housing, education, and advocacy, and her impact continues through her leadership and volunteer service with Dinners for Kids and beyond.

We are so proud to have Shawna as part of our organization. Her compassion, expertise, and commitment to others truly embody the spirit of this recognition.

Fifteen years of showing up for our community! 💛 What started as a simple idea has grown into a full operation, with volunteers packing and delivering meals three times a week to more than 240 children across NEPA. Hunger remains at the heart of our mission, and we are committed to continuing this work, together, for the next 15 years and beyond.

Right here in NEPA, across Wilkes-Barre, the West Side, and the Dallas area, children are receiving meals delivered straight to their doors by people who care. This is neighbors helping neighbors, making sure kids in our own community have the nourishment they need to grow and thrive. The impact is local, and it is happening every week. 💛

An estimated 10,000 children in Luzerne County face food insecurity. That number represents children in our own neighborhoods who may not always know if dinner will be on the table. What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into something truly meaningful for our community.

When founders Edna and David Tevet started Dinners for Kids in 2011, the goal was straightforward: make sure children had a dependable dinner delivered right to their door. Over the years, that small effort has grown into a program reaching hundreds of children across Wilkes-Barre, the West Side, and the Dallas area. As we move through this year, we’re reflecting on the people, partnerships, and compassion that have carried this mission forward for the past 15 years. 💛
