I have lots of postpartum mamas with new babies right now!!!

"When is it safe to return to exercise after baby, and what kinds of exercise are best? How might physical activity affect postpartum depression risk or symptoms? Until recently, the answers to these questions were based largely on common sense, but new guidelines backed by robust research give clear, easy-to-understand recommendations and acknowledge what we don’t yet know about postpartum exercise."

There are real answers backed by robust research.

Funny timing! I just had my teeth cleaning and dental check up today! I even ordered the woven expanding floss the hygenist recommended. (Anyone ever use Cocofloss???) So oral health was on my mind as I ran across this article!!

The Bottom Line on Oral Health and Fertility

"Periodontitis, despite its long-ranging and potentially serious consequences, is ultimately a preventable and treatable disease. Good brushing and flossing habits and access to quality dental care can make all the difference.

The researchers studying the connections between oral health and fertility plan to do future studies to evaluate why those connections exist, and what other kinds of interventions can improve the health of mother, father, and baby. Their advice in the meantime is for pregnancy healthcare professionals to encourage dental check-ups for their patients, and to help them find access to oral healthcare, especially when circumstances make it difficult.

In the meantime, take this as a reminder to floss more often, brush better, or make that dentist appointment you’ve been putting off. Your own health and the health of any future children you may have will thank you!"

Your oral health can impact your fertility (for men and women!)

Advent is a season of preparation for the birth of Jesus, but sometimes we're also preparing to carry our grief through the Christmas season. Let's turn to Baby Jesus during Advent when we need solace and strength.

Thanks for nothing, Birth Control! You have single-handedly dumbed down generations of doctors that the solution for women's gynecological issues is "birth control." Not to mention anxiety, depression, blood clots, high blood pressure and breast cancer. Over-the-counter birth control pushing is just more evidence of LESS concern for women's health & wellbeing, just like mail-order abortion pills. This is the opposite of Reproductive Health, which SHOULD mean overseeing the health & wellbeing of the reproductive system, not shutting it down & telling women to figure it out in their own.

P R O G E S T E R ON E

Progesterone is a true shape-shifter and the most enigmatic of hormones. It's responsive, relational, and endlessly fascinating. And it can behave entirely differently depending on estrogen, gut health, the state of the nervous system, and many other factors.

• In the uterus, it can either enrich the lining or keep it thin and quiet.

• In the brain, it can calm GABA receptors or, in some women, stir anxiety.

• In metabolism, it both boosts metabolic rate and temporarily reduces insulin sensitivity as part of the body’s adaptive rhythm.

It also increases the body’s requirement for sodium, protein, rest, and basically everything. So, when you're making (or taking) progesterone, it will demand MORE of everything you need.

💬 Drop your progesterone thoughts or questions below, and I’ll bring them to Sarah E Hill during our Instagram Live this week:

"If you’ve never considered how important vitamin D is for your fertility and during pregnancy, you might be shocked by how much this “sunshine vitamin” affects far more than just your skin tone. From bone health to blood sugar stabilization, and blood pressure management to mood, vitamin D is crucial for every woman, especially those trying to conceive.

But what levels are optimal for functional fertility? Should every woman take a supplement, regardless of her health status and geographic location? What happens when levels are sub-optimal? Let’s discuss that and more below."

The "sunshine vitamin" is crucial in more ways than you think.
