🎙️ Tune in tomorrow!

We will be on the radio talking about something that doesn’t get discussed nearly enough — rehab after abdominal and pelvic surgeries.

Hysterectomy. C-section. Abdominoplasty. Hernia repair. Endometriosis. Cancer surgery.

These are major procedures… yet many people are sent home without guidance on how to truly recover.

“No one would have knee surgery and skip rehab — so why are we doing that with pelvic surgery?”

Surgery fixes structure. Physical therapy restores function.

We’ll cover preventing long-term pain, reducing scar tightness, and safely returning to lifting and exercise.

If you or someone you love has had pelvic or abdominal surgery, this conversation is for you 💛

Over the next few weeks, we’re diving into common myths about pelvic health! From bladder leaks to core strength to postpartum recovery, it’s time to separate fact from fiction and start learning the truth about our bodies.
_________________________________________________
Myth #1: Everyone should be doing Kegels.

Truth: Not everyone needs to strengthen!

Many people have tight or overactive pelvic floors, and Kegels can actually make symptoms worse, such as pain, leaking, urgency, or painful in*******se.

If your shoulder was tight and painful, you wouldn't lift weights. The same goes for your pelvic floor!

Ready to get back to exercise… but not ready for pain, pressure, or leakage?

Returning to:
✔️ Planks
✔️ Core workouts
✔️ Running
✔️ Jumping
✔️ Lifting
✔️ HIIT or group fitness

…shouldn’t mean dealing with:
❌ Back pain
❌ Hip pain
❌ Pelvic pressure
❌ Abdominal discomfort
❌ Urinary leakage
❌ Heaviness or fear of prolapse

At Effingham Pelvic Health & Wellness, we help you safely return to the workouts you love — without compromising your pelvic floor.

Whether you’re:
🤰 Postpartum (6 weeks or 6+ years!)
🏃‍♀️ Trying to get back to running
💪 Wanting to plank without doming or back pain
🤸 Ready to jump again without leakage

We assess your:
✨ Core function
✨ Pelvic floor strength & coordination
✨ Breathing mechanics
✨ Pressure management
✨ Movement patterns

So you can exercise with confidence — and protect your pelvic floor now to reduce your risk of prolapse later.

You don’t have to “just deal with it.”
Let us help you return stronger. 💛

🌙 Does pain show up or increase the moment you finally lay down?

Vulvar pain.
Scrotal pain.
Perineal pain.
Deep pelvic ache.
Hip or low back pain.

Does it:
• Make it hard to fall asleep?
• Wake you up when you roll over?
• Make laying in bed uncomfortable?
• Stop you from wanting intimacy?

You are NOT crazy.
You are NOT “just tight.”
And you absolutely do not have to live like that.

Pelvic floor dysfunction often shows up at night — when the body is still, the nervous system is quiet, and tension becomes more noticeable.

At our clinic we:
✔ Address overactive pelvic floor muscles
✔ Treat nerve irritation
✔ Reduce hip and back tension
✔ Downtrain the nervous system
✔ Restore comfortable intimacy
✔ Help you sleep without pain

If pain is affecting your sleep or your marriage… it’s time.

You deserve comfort — in your body, in your bed, and in your life.

February is all about sharing our values and the stories behind why our providers chose pelvic floor physical therapy.

This week, we’re featuring Dr. Ashley.
_______________________________________
Dr. Ashley first learned about pelvic PT from a guest lecturer in graduate school who described supporting women through every life stage, from birth prep to menopause. That idea stuck with her personally and professionally. As she pursued more training, she saw firsthand how powerful and life-changing pelvic therapy can be. She now loves helping not only women, but also men and children, improving comfort, confidence, and quality of life.

Thank you, Dr. Ashley, for being a part of our clinic!

✨ 4th Trimester: Postpartum Rehab Class –So Grateful Tonight ✨

We are incredibly thankful for the moms (& dad) who showed up tonight and are being intentional about their pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

One mom (attending with her 3rd pregnancy!) shared:
💬 “Thank you for teaching this and educating moms on what actually happens and preparing them.”

We wish all moms would take the time and work to prepare themselves for the biggest physiologic event they will ever experience, childbirth.

Postpartum is not just about surviving the newborn phase. It’s about:
✔️ Understanding what’s normal (and what’s not)
✔️ Protecting your pelvic floor
✔️ Healing your core
✔️ Returning to exercise safely
✔️ Preventing prolapse, urinary leakage, bowel issues, pain with s*x, difficulty with or**sm, hip pain, back pain, and neck/shoulder pain

And here’s the truth — even if you feel “good” postpartum, you still need pelvic PT.
Symptoms don’t always show up immediately… and prevention is powerful. We see women whose symptoms from their 3rd or 4th degree tear, start in menopause. Women still are not told they need to do rehab postpartum and that should be standard of care.

We won’t be hosting this class in person again until August, but at Effingham Pelvic Health & Wellness we work with moms one-on-one every single day — during pregnancy and throughout postpartum recovery.

We would truly love to support you in this season 🤍

There’s a lot of pressure on new moms to “bounce back.” But true postpartum healing doesn’t happen in just a few weeks, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone.

After pregnancy and delivery, your body is recovering from:
• stretched and weakened muscles
• hormonal changes
• possible tearing or surgical healing
• changes in core and pelvic floor function
• sleep deprivation and stress

Leaking, pelvic pressure, pain, or feeling disconnected from your core are common, but you do not have to simply live with them!

Join Dr. April tomorrow night for Postpartum Rehab, a class dedicated to all of the topics not typically discussed about postpartum. Dr. April will cover topics such as normal bladder and bowel function, prolapse, scars, return to exercise, and return to intimacy postpartum!

Give us a call today so that you can register for the class tomorrow!
