National Health Center Week 2019 (August 4th-10th) is less than one week away, with close to 1,000 events scheduled to take place around the country. The event is part of a national campaign to increase awareness about the critical role Community Health Centers play in addressing the nation’s public health challenges — responding to natural disasters, the nationwide opioid use epidemic, veterans’ health and outbreaks of infectious diseases.
events will celebrate the ways that health centers are “Rooted in Communities” with a variety of events that include health fairs, visits by Members of Congress and state officials to local health centers, press conferences, back-to-school drives, community breakfasts, patient appreciation events, free health screenings and much more.
The national campaign comes as advocates and supporters of health centers are pressing Congress to pass bipartisan legislation that provides stable and long-term funding for the program. Health centers care for 28 million people – a number that is expected to grow as more and more Americans depend on health centers as a medical home.
