The Butterfly Program cares for our most vulnerable patients – children aged 18 years or younger. As the longest-serving, nonprofit pediatric hospice center in the greater Houston area, the devotion to the child and medical care provided by our specialized pediatrics care team is unmatched.

Caring for children is not a one-size-fits-all scenario because their growth and development is ever-changing. Our dedicated team is skilled at providing the appropriate level of care for each child’s needs.

Not only does our interdisciplinary team provide specialized care for the children, they are equipped to communicate with the patient’s family and help manage expectations for everyone involved.

If your family finds themselves in need or if we can answer any questions about our Butterfly Program, please don’t hesitate to let us know. 713-HOSPICE

A common misconception about hospice care is you must go to a facility to live out the rest of your days. And that’s just not the whole truth.

There are four levels of hospice care and, believe it or not, most patients receive hospice care at home.

1️⃣ Routine home care – our interdisciplinary team (doctor, nurse, hospice aide, social worker, chaplain, bereavement counselor, volunteer) visits you in your home and works hand-in-hand with your family to ensure you receive the necessary care

2️⃣ Continuous crisis care – if a patient is experiencing a temporary crisis with symptoms, eight hours per day of nursing care may be provided; when the crisis is over, routine home care resumes

3️⃣ General inpatient care – this level of care is reserved for patients who have unrelieved symptoms that cannot be managed at home; patients will be admitted to our inpatient unit on a short-term basis; once symptoms are under control, routine home care resumes

4️⃣ Respite care – provides relief for families who may need to rest and recharge; patients will stay for up to five days in our inpatient unit in the Texas Medical Center to receive care

Our goal is to make sure each and every hospice patient receives exactly the level of care they need.
