๐ฉบ Trauma Prevention Spotlight | Drowning Safety
Drowning is fast, silent, and often preventable.
In Texas, drowning remains a serious cause of injury and death, especially for young children. As a Level IV Trauma Designated Facility, El Campo Memorial Hospital is committed not only to emergency care but also to preventing tragedies before they happen.
Water Safety Tips from Our Trauma Program:
๐ Always designate an active water watcher. No phones, no distractions
๐ Never leave children unattended near any water source, even for a moment
๐ Install four-sided pool fencing with self-latching gates
๐ Use U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets in lakes, ponds, rivers, and other natural water
๐ Encourage swim lessons and CPR training for caregivers
Seconds matter:
Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, without splashing or cries for help.
At El Campo Memorial Hospital, trauma prevention is part of our commitment to caring for our community. By staying alert and taking simple safety steps, we can help protect children and families all summer long.
