Today is National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is now found in many unexpected places. It only takes a tiny amount to be fatal, and you often can’t see, smell, or taste it.

What you can do:
-Spread the word: Talk to your friends and family about the risks.
-Be prepared: Carry Narcan.
-Stay safe: Only take medications prescribed specifically for you by a professional.

With summer approaching and the next school year not far behind, now is a great time to plan ahead.

If your family plans to have your child vaccinated for school, we encourage you to schedule those appointments early. Each year we see a rush of appointments right before school starts, and scheduling ahead can help families avoid the last-minute scramble.

This is especially helpful for students entering Kindergarten, 8th grade, or 12th grade, when additional vaccines are commonly recommended for school-aged children.

📞 To schedule an appointment with the Cedar County Health Department, please call (417) 876-5477.

While this case was identified in Greene County, it serves as a helpful reminder for all Missouri residents to avoid contact with wildlife and ensure pets are current on rabies vaccinations. See the post from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department below for prevention tips.

https://health.springfieldmo.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/13089

SGCHD has identified a positive case of rabies in a skunk. This is Greene County’s first positive rabies result in 2026. While the exposure risk to the community remains low, SGCHD would like to take this opportunity to remind community members of rabies prevention methods.

March is here! That means spring weather is among us.

Unpredictable spring weather in Missouri can bring rain, fog, and changing road conditions. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, weather and roadway conditions play a role in many crashes this time of year.

-Slow down on wet roads
-Increase your following distance
-Use headlights in rain or fog
-Stay alert and avoid distractions

Let’s keep our families and community safe on the roads in Cedar County this March.

Nice weather makes it tempting to hit the gas, but speeding is still a leading cause of serious crashes in Missouri.

Keep our community safe:

✔️ Follow posted speed limits
✔️ Slow down on rural roads and curves
✔️ Adjust for weather, traffic, and road conditions
✔️ Leave early so you’re not rushing
✔️ Remember: Arriving safely is more important than arriving quickly

Speed limits exist to protect everyone, including you.

Let’s work together to keep our roads safe.
