The Union County Genealogical Society began on 22 June 1976, with 41 charter members. Current projects include collecting and laminating obituaries, and organizing Civil War affidavits and land records donated by the County Judge. at the Barton Public Library. Barton Public Library provides a meeting place, genealogy room and a genealogist on staff to assist researchers.
