Our residency program faculty Dr. James, Dr. Watson, Dr. Childs, and Dr. Lopez Gonzalez along with Program Coordinator Janie Ward recently attended the 2nd Annual UAMS Department of Family and Preventive Research Symposium.

UAMS South's recent bravo break was out of this world. The group hosted a space-themed party designed to celebrate staff while reinforcing a team-building culture.
Raegan Lout and Hannah Thomas planned the event, transforming the clinic into an interactive, inter-planetary experience with a scavenger hunt. Groups scoured the clinic to locate “rocket parts” and repair a spacecraft before the aliens could take over. In a surprising twist, administrative director Richard Reeves was snatched by aliens during the mission, but the cosmic chickens won the challenge and saved the day.

The bravo break strengthened team connections, reinforcing a culture where staff feel valued and engaged. This reflects UAMS South's commitment to hospitality, teamwork, and ownership.

AHEC Scholars and pharmacy students Marissa Bones, Gracie Tidwell and Alexis Ford taught students from Warren and Fordyce high schools this week about the challenges with opioid overdose and how Naloxone can make an immediate difference in saving a life. They also talked about their professional health care training and encouraged them to pursue health careers. The three AHEC Scholars were taught how to teach others about Naloxone through the Arkansas Naloxone Education Training program at UAMS.

College students walked away with lots of information to decide their next steps as a health care professional at the Undergraduate Pre-Health Conference last Friday at UAMS Little Rock. Students heard from the five UAMS colleges and graduate school, plus tips from a 7-member UAMS student panel. UAMS South recently hosted a suturing workshop for the Pre-Health Club at Southern Arkansas University where students learned basic suturing skills. Jordan Griffen, M.D., a third-year family medicine resident with the UAMS Southwest Family Medical Center in Texarkana, led the workshop with Brian Strong and Caleb LeGrand helping. Both are fourth-year medical students, and Brian is an AHEC scholar. The students learned about the men's journey through medical school while practicing a new skill with the hope that they will explore their own health care careers.
