Since 2011, High Desert Oral and Facial Surgery has served the Borderplex as a specialized practice offering comprehensive oral and maxillofacial procedures. On Tuesday, the practice announced it is investing in the future of oral health care with a $250,000 gift, matched by Texas Tech Health El Paso, to create a $500,000 endowed professorship at the Hunt School of Dental Medicine.

The endowed position will support leadership of the school’s first Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program. Now, future specialists will train right here in the Borderplex, serving our community in trauma, reconstructive and pediatric care for generations to come and building a nationally competitive training pathway rooted right here at home.

Because when it comes to world-class care, El Paso families deserve to stay close to the ones who care for them most.

Big smiles at Gadsden Oral Health Day 🦷✨

Some of our incredible Hunt School of Dental Medicine students volunteered to provide oral health screenings for 131 elementary school students in the Gadsden Independent School District in New Mexico.

With guidance from pediatric dentist and faculty member Dr. Parco, our future DMDs identified 31 children who may need additional follow-up services at the Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic. By bringing dentistry directly into the school, the team helped catch concerns early and connect families with important follow-up care.

The space was transformed into a pop-up clinic complete with portable chairs and lights. Every child went home with a personalized dental report card, plus dental goodies and games to help keep those smiles shining.

Thank you to Nusenda Credit Union and the Hervey Foundation for helping make this impactful day possible.

Our new four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program is led by Dr. Vernon P. Burke, an accomplished oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has served El Paso for more than 15 years. The program provides rigorous surgical training, broad clinical exposure, and significant patient volume in our unique border community.
We're proud to strengthen and advance OMFS in our Borderplex through education, trauma care, and service.
