How Long Do Sinus Infections Last?

The two main types of sinus infections are acute and chronic. In acute cases, symptoms typically last around two to four weeks, although cases are usually resolved in ten days. In cases of chronic sinus infections, symptoms can last for months and come on in recurrent episodes. Chronic sinusitis may be caused by allergies or environmental factors, such as exposure to smoke. It is considered normal to contract two sinus infections a year. However, any more than two sinus infections a year and a visit to ears, nose, and throat specialists are warranted. If left untreated, sinus infections can spread to other parts of the body. In the most severe case, the infection can spread to the blood, which causes a life-threatening condition known as sepsis.

What is Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)?

Pink eye, also medically known as conjunctivitis, is a common eye condition that causes the white part of your eye (sclera) to become inflamed and irritated. This inflammation gives the eye a pinkish or reddish hue, hence the name "pink eye." The conjunctiva, a thin transparent membrane lining your eyelid and covering the white part of your eyeball, becomes inflamed due to various reasons. This inflammation can be triggered by viruses, bacteria, allergies, or even exposure to irritants like smoke or chemicals.

While pink eye can be quite uncomfortable and cause a gritty feeling in the eye, it's usually a mild condition that resolves on its own within a week or two. However, it's highly contagious, especially viral and bacterial pink eye, which can spread quickly through close contact with an infected person or by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your eyes.

What Are the Causes of Dehydration?

Sometimes dehydration occurs for simple reasons: You don't drink enough because you're sick or busy, or because you lack access to safe drinking water when you're traveling, hiking or camping.

Other dehydration causes include:

Diarrhea, vomiting. Severe diarrhea can cause a tremendous loss of water and electrolytes in a short amount of time. If you have vomiting along with diarrhea, you lose even more fluids and minerals.

Fever. In general, the higher your fever, the more dehydrated you may become. The problem worsens if you have a fever in addition to diarrhea and vomiting.

Excessive sweating. You lose water when you sweat. If you do vigorous activity and don't replace fluids as you go along, you can become dehydrated. Hot, humid weather increases the amount you sweat and the amount of fluid you lose when exercising.

Increased urination. This may be due to undiagnosed or uncontrolled diabetes. Certain medications, such as diuretics and some blood pressure medications, also can lead to dehydration, generally because they cause you to urinate more.

How Long Does a Fever Last with a Cold or Flu?

The duration of a fever associated with a cold or flu can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the individual's immune system strength, the specific strain of virus causing the infection, and the promptness and effectiveness of any treatment received. Generally, for a common cold, a fever, if present, might last from 1 to 3 days and is usually mild. In contrast, fevers caused by the flu are typically more severe and can last from 3 to 7 days, with the possibility of extending up to two weeks in more serious cases.

What Is a Chest Cold (Acute Bronchitis)?

A chest cold occurs when the airways of the lungs swell and produce mucus in the lungs. That's what makes you cough. A chest cold, often called acute bronchitis, lasts less than 3 weeks and is the most common type of bronchitis.

Causes
Acute bronchitis is usually caused by a virus and often occurs after an upper respiratory infection. Bacteria can sometimes cause acute bronchitis, but even in these cases, antibiotics are NOT recommended and will not help you get better.

Symptoms
Symptoms of acute bronchitis last less than 3 weeks and can include:

- Coughing with or without mucus.
- Soreness in the chest.
- Feeling tired (fatigue).
- Mild headache.
- Mild body aches.
- Sore throat.

What Causes Eye Infections?

It could be that a minor injury, a seasonal allergy, chemical exposure, or a particle trapped by a contact lens could have caused a person's eye infection. The particular kind of eye infection a person has could be a viral, bacterial, or fungal one. The two most common eye infections are styes and conjunctivitis. You may know conjunctivitis as pink eye, and it's usually caused by a virus. Typically, it occurs along with a cold or respiratory infection. Styles, however, typically develop when an oil gland along the eyelid becomes infected.

The thing about infections is that they rarely go away easily on their own. This is why they should be treated professionally.

What Causes Sore Throat?

The most common reason you get a sore throat is because of a cold or flu. It may be just one of several side problems you get. Cold symptoms tend to develop slowly, but the flu tends to hit you quickly.
If you are coughing, your voice is hoarse, or you have a runny nose, a cold is the most likely culprit. The common cold is less harmful than the flu, which attacks your nose, throat, and lungs. And you may get more intense symptoms, including fever, body aches, and headaches.

What Are 5 Signs I Have Asthma?

Some signs that might indicate the presence of asthma include fatigue or difficulty sleeping due to nighttime symptoms, such as coughing or shortness of breath; frequent episodes of coughing or wheezing that are often triggered by allergens, such as pollen or pet dander; increased mucus production or phlegm that is difficult to clear from the airways; and a feeling of anxiety or panic during asthma episodes. It is also important to note that asthma symptoms can vary in severity and frequency from person to person, so keeping track of when and where symptoms occur can provide valuable information to your healthcare provider.
