Caring for our seniors is perhaps the greatest responsibility we have. Those who walked before us have given so much and made possible the life we all enjoy.

Senior citizens and older travelers need to exercise some caution when flying, driving long distances, or going on a cruise. Rapid changes in the temperature and climate, hours of walking and standing, and the stress of traveling itself can take their toll on an older person's health and well-being.

These are some travel tips for older adults:

✈️Find out if you need to update your vaccinations.

✈️Get to the airport early

✈️Select an Aisle Seat on Long Flights

✈️Keep Medicines Handy

✈️Don’t be afraid to ask attendants for help

These are 5 Bathing Tips for Older Adults with Dementia🛀🏽🚿💦🧼🫧🛁🧽
🚿Establish a daily routine-A predictable daily routine reduces their overall stress and anxiety and makes it more likely that they’ll bathe without resistance.

🚿Create a comfortable showering environment in advance-This step is critical to a safe and pleasant bathing experience. Before bringing the person into the showering area, a caregiver should ensure that the showering area is safe, secure and comfortable.

🚿Use positive reinforcement and don’t argue- Don’t try to argue with your older adult about how many days it’s been since their last shower, how stinky they are, or why good hygiene is important.

🚿Slowly ease the person with dementia into the shower- If the person resists going to the shower, you may like to try showering them straight after they have been to the toilet, where you start running the hot water and remind them how much they enjoy the warm water on their back.

🚿Use a hand-held shower head to reduce fear- The spray of a shower can be terrifying to a person with dementia. Some experts think this happens because they can’t see the water that’s hitting them and it feels like something invisible is attacking their head.
Before turning on the water, get them seated in the shower chair. Then, with the shower head at feet-level and pointing away from them, turn on the water and adjust the temperature.

Seniors are more vulnerable to dehydration for a number of reasons:
💧Appetite and thirst tend to diminish with age. This means that even when your body is craving fluids, you might not be aware of it—and you may drink less than you need to stay healthy.
💧Older adults experience body composition changes over time that leave them with less water in their bodies to start with.
💧Seniors are more likely to take medications that increase dehydration risk.
