DIscussing what recovery CAN mean to us

07/26/2021

Nietzsche once said that we are nothing more than the sum total of our actions. This is pertinent to our recovery, but not in the way that many might think. At first blush this statement might incite guilt and shame. I don't see it that way. It is by-and-large a HOPEFUL statement. Humans by nature are creatures that are driven by learning and habit. Neurology supports this claim. Some of these habit are directly connected to how often the behavior in question, good or bad, is implemented. Habitual constructs can weigh us down into, or can pull us out of things. Constant implementation is key. Confidence and hope in our recovery is a by product of the constant implementation of our pathway of recovery multiplied by time spent implementing that pathway. If i want to be confident in my recovery, that is to say in my future, I MUST consistently implement my pathway in the present moment for the long term.

It's called a program for a reason. As i work this program consistently, the program begins to work me. Now, my old behavioral habitual constructs are still there in the early stages, but if I am diligent, focused, and goal oriented? These old constructs begin to lose their hold and can then be replaced by habits that are meaningful, purposeful, and have the potential to yield both happiness and confidence.
