Ever wonder why a toothache hurts so bad? Each tooth has tiny nerve endings that feed into a larger nerve called the trigeminal, one of the strongest and most sensitive nerves in the body . It takes milliseconds for the trigeminal nerve to shoot impulses to the brain, causing a pain that can’t be ignored.

Tooth pain is an alarm that something is wrong. By the time you have tooth pain, more than likely the severity of the problem is going to require more complex treatment than a mere filling.

This is why at Awesome Smiles, we strive to get our patients into a maintenance program by practicing preventive dentistry. We encourage patients to have small cavities filled rather than waiting until it’s painful. Complex treatments not only take more time, they often take more money. It’s very easy to take your teeth for granted. You won’t know how important they are until you no longer have them.

Poor oral hygiene is contributory to many systemic illnesses.

I encourage patients to keep their teeth. Once you have the mindset of pulling teeth, before you know it, you have none. People still think dentures are inevitable in older adults, and that just isn’t true anymore.
