Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, claiming more lives each year than all cancers combined. Yet many women remain unaware of their risks or the symptoms, which can differ significantly from those experienced by men.

While men often experience classic chest pain, women may have more subtle warning signs, including:
• Shortness of breath
• Unexplained fatigue
• Nausea or lightheadedness
• Pain in the back, neck, or jaw

Empowering women to protect their heart health is essential. Here are a few steps to help reduce your risk:

1 - Know your numbers: Regularly monitor your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.
2 - Stay active: Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week.
3 - Eat a heart-healthy diet: Focus on whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats.
4 - Don’t ignore symptoms: If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and seek medical attention.

February is American Heart Month. Did you know that more than 900,000 Americans pass away from cardiovascular disease in the U.S. each year? It is a silent killer, and the #1 cause of premature death and illness. That's why we are grateful to have a well-known local Cardiologist, Dr. David Turbay, and his wife Tiffany, join us in the Fox 92.3FM studios to spread awareness and prevention of cardiovascular disease. To best assess the heart's condition, Dr. Turbay highly recommends the Cardiac PET/CT offered at Desert Imaging for precise measurement of myocardial blood flow with a low dose, no contrast experience.

Before any heart symptoms occur, please remember that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Eat clean and healthy, exercise at least three times per week, and keep those weight and BP levels down.

Special thanks to Claudia Navarro for coordinating our special guests, and to Mike G for helping us spread lifesaving info and services across our Borderland!
