Paso del Norte Health Foundation

Paso del Norte Health Foundation The Paso del Norte Health Foundation in El Paso, Texas is one of the largest private foundations on the U.S./Mexico border.

The Health Foundation works effectively across these boundaries in partnership and collaboration with other organizations to plan and implement programs that address disease prevention and health education. The main focus of the Health Foundation is to help those within the region who are most in need. To envision the region where all people, regardless of socio-economic status have the knowledge, resources, and environment they need to live healthy lives. To achieve this, the Health Foundation has developed a creative, pro-active approach to improving the long-term health of the region. Below are the health priority areas of funding:

Healthy Living
Disease Prevention & Management
Health Leadership

Unsolicited grant proposals are not accepted by the Health Foundation. However, when launching a new Request For Proposals (RFP), the Health Foundation offers grant workshops for nonprofit organizations to better understand the purpose of the initiative or program and how to respond to the RFP. Program officers are available to discuss ideas for future programs and welcome suggestions from regional organizations.

Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. and over the past two decades, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation has led a bold regional movement to reduce to***co use and exposure to second-hand smoke.

Thanks to effective policies, education and partnerships, smoking rates have declined from a high of 24% in 2001 to 13% today - lower than the Texas average. What began as a push to eliminate indoor smoking has grown into a multi-front effort to support quitting, protect youth, and promote a culture of wellness for all.

The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (Health Foundation) seeks Letters of Intent (LOIs) from eligible organizations to promote the Health Foundation’s Strategic Plan for the Healthy Kids Initiative.

Specifically, the Health Foundation seeks LOIs to increase the number of disconnected youth ages 5-17 who participate in out-of-school time (OST) programs. Disconnected youth refers to children ages 5-17 years old who do not have a safe environment, a positive activity, and a trusted adult outside of school. Connected youth are involved in out-of-school time activities in a safe place with a caring adult. Connected youth also tend to avoid situations and behaviors that compromise health while engaging in activities that promote health.
