Less urgency. Less pressure. More support. More consistency.

This season isn’t about extremes or quick fixes. It’s about steady habits, realistic goals, and caring for your body in a way that actually holds up over time.

Small, supportive choices made daily will always outperform dramatic resets. That’s the long game. 🤍

New Year, new goals! But this time, let’s make them SMART:

SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Instead of saying, "I want to get healthy," try "I will exercise for 30 minutes, 4 times a week, for the next month." Or swap "I’ll save money" for "I’ll save $50 each week by cutting back on takeout."

Clear, focused goals lead to real progress. Let’s make this year the one where things happen!

Aligning our plates with the rhythm of nature isn't just a culinary choice. It's a celebration of freshness, sustainability, and nutritional diversity! Eating with the cycles connects us with the earth, ensuring we enjoy produce at its peak, support local agriculture and try new foods in the process. (And it's typically more affordable and super easy to find!)

Also in season: collard greens, oranges, yams, bok choy, radicchio, endive, fennel, mustard greens, kumquats and tangerines.

*Available produce will vary by area. The best way to shop seasonally is to visit your local farmer's market. Check out .loya!

As we head into a new year, this truth becomes a guidepost:
It’s hard to stay stuck, and it’s hard to grow.
It’s hard to abandon yourself, and it’s hard to choose yourself.
It’s hard to live in old patterns, and it’s hard to create new ones.

But one version of “hard” brings you closer to who you want to be.

The point isn’t to avoid discomfort. It’s to choose the discomfort that leads somewhere meaningful. Somewhere aligned. Somewhere lighter.

As you move into 2026, ask yourself:
What kind of hard is worth it?
What kind of hard builds the life you actually want?

Holiday bloating isn’t a failure. It’s physiology.
When we eat more sugar than usual, the gut microbiome shifts temporarily. Sugar feeds the “bad” bacteria faster than the good bacteria can keep up, which leads to bloating, gas, sluggish motility, and inflammation.

Here’s the good news: your body resets quickly with a few simple habits.

✨ Go for a 10-minute walk (or 1,000 steps) after meals. *This is one of the most research-backed ways to reduce bloating and improve digestion!!*
✨ Add gentle magnesium
✨ Increase fiber mindfully
✨ Press pause on carbonation, gum, and straws
✨ Warm teas > cold drinks
✨ Lighter evening meals

Be kind to yourself this season. Your gut is resilient, and with just a little support, she always finds her way back to balance. 🤍

The Winter Solstice this weekend marks a turning point: the longest night, followed by the gradual return of light. It’s the season of gentle renewal… not pressure, not productivity, just a quiet shift into new energy.

Try one or two of these this week, and let yourself feel the shift. 🤍

The holidays can bring joy… and a surprising amount of emotional pressure. But here’s your gentle reminder: you are not responsible for managing the feelings, reactions, or expectations of anyone else.

You can love people deeply without carrying their emotional weight. You can show up with kindness without abandoning your own nervous system. You can set boundaries without being the villain.

This season, please stop over-functioning for everyone around you. You matter. 🤍

Our Story

Francisco J. (“Jay”) Guerra and Adriane K. Guerra met serendipitously on South Padre Island, TX in 1997. Adriane was practicing and living in Brownsville, TX as a recent WHNP graduate from Vanderbilt University. Jay was visiting the island with his father and brother as he was attending school at the University of Houston. One year later, the two were married and Adriane moved to Houston to work in the Texas Medical Center in a busy OB/GYN clinic. Once Jay graduated with his Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology, the pair made a life-changing decision for Jay to move to Nashville, TN to attend Vanderbilt University as he was accepted in their renowned Family Nurse Practitioner program. Adriane moved to work with Jay’s father, a beloved El Paso, TX physician and owner of the locally well-known Doctor’s In clinic. Adriane decided to add to her education and earned a Post-Master’s as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In 2002, Jay completed his studies and moved to El Paso after graduation to join his wife and father in the family’s clinical practice. Over the next 11 years Jay and Adriane worked hard to build their individual practices, knowledge and skills while raising five daughters together. In 2013, Jay and Adriane made the arduous decision to leave the Doctor’s In family clinic to open their own practice. The main reason for leaving was Jay and Adriane’s evolving paradigm shift of how they wanted to practice medicine—to a more integrative and functional model which no longer fit with the current practice model. This made them eager to cultivate their own practice, one that would effectively intersect their expertise with their respective interests.

El Paso Wellness Associates, LLC opened its doors in 2013. Since then, Jay and Adriane have truly enjoyed owning and running a practice together. They are completely devoted to lifelong education and to always being open to learning new things not only about their respective medical fields but also about themselves. That is the energy that sets them apart.
