UMC Foundation - Make a Difference and Volunteer September 27th and/or September 28th!

University Medical Center Foundation of El Paso has two upcoming events at the end of September, and we would love your support! Volunteers play a vital role in making these events successful, and your time and energy make a real difference in our community. Please take a moment to review the opportunities below and respond to this email to sign up for an event. National Seat Check Saturday Event

Date: Saturday, September 27, 2025

Location: Fox Acura El Paso, 7750 Gateway Blvd East, 79915

Volunteer Time Frame: Volunteers needed from 7:30am – 2:30pm
* Lunch and beverages will be available.

Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will be needed for event set up, assisting technicians, directing event traffic, registering participants, weighing and measuring children, general event support and event breakdown.

Dress Code: This is an outdoor event. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Pants/Jeans or shorts and comfortable shoes are advised.

Chile Pepper Challenge

Volunteers of the Chile Pepper Challenge Charity Ride will provide critical event support by assisting with tasks such as event set up, directing traffic in the parking area, checking in event participants, passing out medals to race finishers, and event breakdown.

Date: Sunday, September 28th
Location: Grace Gardens, 6709 Westside Dr. El Paso, 79932
The following volunteer shifts are available:
• 6am - 9am
• 6am - 10am
• 8am - 11am
• 10am - 1:30pm
• 11am - 1pm
• 12pm - 2pm (Event Breakdown Shift)

Coffee with Veterans – Special 9/11 Remembrance Gathering at Amistad (Thursday!)

You are warmly invited to join us for our next Coffee with Veterans on Thursday, September 11th, from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM at Amistad (3210 Dyer St.).
This gathering is especially meaningful, as it falls on the anniversary of September 11, 2001. Together, we will take a moment to honor the lives lost, recognize the courage of first responders and service members, and celebrate the resilience of our veteran community.
Event Highlights:
• ☕ Free coffee and snacks
• 🤝 Networking and fellowship with veterans, community partners, and service providers
• 🎖️ A time of remembrance and unity
We encourage you to BRING A VET and help us fill the room with strength, solidarity, and camaraderie.

The VA will have a Chalk event at the Main VA on September 16, 25.

It is for Veterans and family members of Veterans to write inspirational message of hope on the sidewalk outside the Main VA .

The event will begin at 9AM and end at 2PM.

Support Naming New VA Clinic - In Honor of SGT Rubalcava

Attached is a flyer and pages 1 & 2 of a sample letter of support for the naming of the new El Paso VA Clinic.

The veteran community and veteran organizations invites the public to submit letters of support to our Congressional Representatives in naming the new El Paso VA clinic in honor of Sergeant Isela Rubalcaba.

On May 8, 2004, SGT Rubalcaba was Killed in Action during a mortar attack in Iraq - three days shy of her 26th birthday. She is the believed to be the first woman from El Paso County to have died in combat.

Reminder, we offer a Veteran Extended Hours Clinic!

Clinic Details:
Hours: Monday – Friday, 4 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Location: El Paso VA Main Facility, Primary Care Clinic (5001 N. Piedras St.)
Who Can Visit: Enrolled Veterans needing after-hours primary care for minor health conditions.

Services Include:

Coughs/Cold/Flu
Sore Throat
Earaches
Urinary Symptoms
Skin Conditions
Minor Injuries
Strep Throat
Sprains/Strains
Acute Lower Back Pain
Important:

For serious/life-threatening emergencies, call 911 or visit the nearest ER.
X-ray and lab services are not available, but Community Care Network Pharmacy services are.

The Rio Grande Honor Flight honors our veterans with a special trip to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to their service. It's a moving way to say thank you.

The Give One, Get One Blanket Program allows you to donate $50 for a beautiful lap blanket for a veteran on their trip. You can receive a second blanket for yourself or choose to donate it to another veteran, sharing warmth and gratitude all around.
