I have permission to share this. Keratoconus in children is terrible. This is a patient of mine who has a degenerative corneal condition in both eyes. Both eyes have very bad vision but one eye is already functionally blind (he can see shadows only). He needs a corneal transplant and Medicaid doesn't cover them or the follow up visits. It is a risky procedure but if this eye ruptures and the other eye continues to decline, which is likely, he will end up totally blind. There is a chance of even as much as 20/20 vision with the procedure. It has a 50% failure rate and is often repeated maybe even 3 times but 50% to get to VERY functional vision at least, better than the current better eye. I don't expect this procedure to take place for at least 6 months, she hasn't updated this but she knows she needs $4500 and is going to need to travel for frequent fu visits out of town. They have almost 3K but I know they are going to need about 6K. Please help here if you feel it on your heart. Thank you in advance.
