Hello Friends! After a 2+ year process of extensive interviews/trials, Mountain Man PT is proud to announce that Dr. Kyle Amerson, PT, DPT has joined the MMPT family as a full-time Doctor of Physical Therapy. Finding the right fit was not easy nor quick, as our philosophy and desire to provide exceptional patient experiences meant that very few candidates qualified. As a practice fully focused on one-on-one care, we held off on expanding until an exceptional candidate came along. We sought a DPT who could not only understand the shortcomings of conventional physical therapy, but who also demonstrated a steadfast determination to learn and embrace our new progressive style of treatment: one that moves away from interventions geared towards symptom management, and instead focuses on resolving the root cause of dysfunction. In addition, the DPT would have to love the manual labor required to fix the underlying conditions—a key to unlocking each patient’s potential to heal.

Throughout the past 8 months, Dr. Amerson has been in a mentorship learning and embracing the Mountain Man approach. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with him and watch his skills rapidly improve. He desires to be an agent of change that our field desperately needs and he gives 100% of his heart and mind to this endeavor.

Dr. Amerson has been treating patients at MMPT for about a month and he impresses us everyday with his outstanding patient care. From day one his patients walked out with significant improvements and a new-found understanding of the simplicity of fixing their own injuries. His dedication means that MMPT can serve and deliver the gold standard of care to twice as many people in our community.

We are also excited to point out that adding Dr. Amerson to the practice has cut our average wait time for new patients down from 8-10 weeks to about a week. We are now accepting new patients, all of whom will be treated one-on-one with a highly skilled and caring Doctor of Physical Therapy with no techs or assistants. Please read on to learn more about Dr. Amerson’s background, and take this opportunity to officially welcome him to the Mountain Man family!

Dr. Kyle Amerson, PT, DPT was born and raised the youngest of 3 brothers in the midwestern city of Springfield, IL. He developed a passion for sports at an early age, allowing him to travel the country playing competitive baseball from around 9 years old all the way through high school. Kyle excelled in baseball and would go on to receive multiple collegiate scholarships to play outfield for Springfield College and then Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. When not playing sports, he spent his free time fishing, hunting, and helping his brothers tend to their grandmother’s large family farm. Spending his days being physically active, training for sports, and completing labor tasks on the farm led to a passion for manual labor. After graduating with his undergraduate degree, Kyle ultimately decided his next adventure would be to serve in the United States Armed Forces as his brother and grandfather had done before him. During his time in the military, his extra duties as a soldier included welding and machining. However, most of his time was spent as the driver and operator of a tank-recovery track vehicle. The Army also provided his introduction to physical therapy, as he underwent multiple knee surgeries and required months of PT to recover. Kyle became enamored of physical therapy and used his sessions to ask every question he could think of pertaining to PT and the overall process of joining the field. Kyle jokes that he fell in love twice while in the Army: once with physical therapy, and the other with his wife, Jessica, who he met in El Paso while stationed at Ft. Bliss. Towards the end of his Army contract, Kyle researched the steps necessary to become a DPT and he enrolled in classes to begin the process before officially discharging. He spent the next 3.5 years completing his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Missouri while also growing his family. Kyle and Jessica have 3 sons and now reside in El Paso where they are extremely excited to establish their family roots within the community. Kyle has stated that Mountain Man Physical Therapy was his top choice as a clinical practice because of the unique one-on-one treatment approach combined with the excellent results-based manual therapy protocol that Dr. Schiller has pioneered.
