🌍 International Day of Persons with Disabilities

💙 Celebrating Inclusion • Empowering Voices • Building a Better El Paso

Today, we honor the strength, talents, and contributions of individuals with disabilities in our community. At The Arc of El Paso, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to thrive, be included, and lead a life filled with dignity and independence.

This year’s theme reminds us that accessibility, advocacy, and acceptance aren’t just goals — they’re commitments we must uphold every day. Together, we can create a city where barriers are removed, voices are heard, and all abilities are celebrated.

✨ Join us in spreading awareness, championing inclusion, and advocating for a more accessible world.
When we lift each other up, our community becomes stronger.

Fifty years ago, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) became law. This opened the door to a free and appropriate public education for millions of children with disabilities.

Before IDEA, about 1.75 million children with disabilities were excluded from public schools. Today, many more students learn in their neighborhood schools alongside non-disabled peers. Inclusive classrooms strengthen learning for everyone, promote understanding, and help build connections.

The need for strong special education systems is crucial. When key federal offices that support IDEA aren't fully staffed, states miss out on important guidance. This can put students with disabilities at risk of not getting the services and support they need.

National Special Education Day reminds us that students with disabilities deserve a safe place to learn and grow. We must protect that right.
