Today is World Transplant Day, and we're here to tell you that 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 "𝐲𝐞𝐬" 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Every year, organ, eye, and tissue transplants save and transform tens of thousands of lives—giving people a second chance to dance, to dream, to grow, and to love.

Today, we celebrate the incredible strength of transplant recipients, honor the selfless generosity of donors and their families, and recognize the life-saving work of healthcare heroes who make these miracles possible.

Last year, as we waited for a heart to become available for my dad, we affectionately named the new heart “Bob” for Bob Newhart (if you weren’t alive in the late 1900’s you may have to google that one…also a nod to Alan Olson, iykyk).

One year ago today my dad called me early that morning and all he said was “Bob’s on the way!” 😭🙌🏼

The journey of a transplant is a roller coaster of emotions to say the least. Knowing we are celebrating another year with my dad means another family has just lived through all of the “first’s” without their loved one. I’ve thought of them a lot this week and I pray God is their hope and comfort.

The past year has been a journey only God could ordain and sustain us through. He has been our hope and our guide every step of the way. Tomorrow morning, June 1st, Pete gets to share about the hope Jesus gives us and how God has worked through his story. We would love for you to join us at FBCER at 10:00 in the morning if you can.

As we close in on this first year post transplant, we have recounted many times the amazing things God has done through this process. He never ceased to show up, provide, and work in ways only He could!

On June 1st, the one year anniversary of Pete’s new heart, Pete will be speaking at FBC El Reno during the 10:00 service, answering questions about his journey and testifying to the goodness of our God! We would love for you to join us that morning if you are able.

Praise Report!!! 🙌🏼🎉

After weeks of waiting on test results, Pete had an appointment with his neurologist yesterday and all of the tests we were waiting on came back negative (which is what we were praying for)! It turns out the cause of Pete’s legs not working is the long time use of Velcade, the injections he was receiving for his amyloidosis. His team of doctors decided back in January to stop the use of the Velcade, which means his nerves have been in the healing process since that time. Dr Beson was very encouraged by Pete’s progress yesterday, seeing improved reflexes in his feet and ankles, and believes his nerves will continue to heal and he will regain use of his legs over time with continued PT and OT. We continue to pray for renewed strength in Pete’s legs and that God will be glorified in every detail.

April 1, 2024 - After a routine right heart cath that morning, Pete’s doctor asked him a question that completely shocked and terrified us…”Do you have another week in you?” None of us realized how bad his heart was until that moment. And we had no idea what was coming

April 8, 2024 - After a long week of tests, blood work, scans, meetings with doctors meetings with social workers, meetings with financial teams, and attending the only baseball game he would get to see with the G boys finally on the same team, Pete walked into the hospital knowing he wouldn’t leave until he had a new heart.

A year ago today this journey started. It has been full of uncertainty, more waiting than we would’ve liked, moments of fear, and an emotional roller coaster like none we’d ever been on…

BUT GOD.

Though the last year was full of so many unknowns, it was also full of prayer warriors lifting us up, putting our hope in Jesus, and learning what it meant to truly trust God in all things. A year ago today was the start of the longest 87 days of our lives, but we are so thankful this journey didn’t stop after 87 days. The last year has been marked time and time again by the goodness of our God and words cannot express how thankful we are for His unwavering hand on every detail of our lives.

So while April 8th is just an ordinary day for most, it is a day that will forever mark the beginning of a God-sized story in the life of our family. We are continually overwhelmed by the goodness of our God!

Today was a good day. 🙌🏼

We are still waiting on some test results regarding Pete’s legs, but his doctor could not be happier with his heart. We are thankful!

We are also thankful for a friend who was so willing to let Pete use this scooter for awhile. This allows him to get out and about and to the ball field…which we all know he has missed most of all! Thank you Lord for answered prayers and your continued blessings!

A long overdue update…

Mid January, after months of doing great…walking and driving and getting back to some normalcy…Pete had a pretty good fall that set him back drastically. Since then he has not been able to use his legs. Walking and driving are no longer in the picture and any transportation requires a wheelchair, even at home. We have been to several doctors and specialists who are working diligently, trying to figure out the cause.

Today (Wednesday) Pete goes in for a spinal tap to see if we can get some answers. We ask that you’d pray for results. We ask that you’d pray for a way back to the mobility he once had. But most of all we ask that you’d pray we will point to and honor the Lord, whatever may come.

As always, we appreciate your constant prayers and support. We love you all and are beyond thankful for each of you.

** A few weeks ago Pete and Donna got to attended church for the first time in a while. Thank you to everyone who loved and encouraged them that morning. We know the words on the screen ring true for Pete and we praise God He is continuing to carry us every step of the way.

A message from Pete…

First, thank you for all the prayers, love, support and encouragement you all blessed us with this past year. You will never know how much it meant to us.

Second, our prayer since day 1 of this journey has been that Christ would be honoured thru it all and He would get all the glory. Well, I’ve been asked to share my story with our FBC youth this Wednesday. I pray that they would better understand how God can ALWAYS be counted on to meet every need we may have, big or small.
I would ask that you say a prayer that I would share of the goodness of God and not make it about me, because it’s not. And that the students would get a better grasp of God’s love.

Thank you, I love you all.

After calling me, singing 🎶 “I’ll be home for Christmas” 🎶, Pete was released from the hospital today and is settled in at home. We appreciate your prayers this week and all of the kind messages and check ins. We still don’t have a ton of answers would appreciate your prayers for continued strength in Pete’s legs. Our hope remains in Jesus and all glory is His alone.
