Bun Run- 5K & 1Mile Fun Run

Bun Run- 5K & 1Mile Fun Run Join us the first Saturday in May for Wesley UMC Bun Run 5k/1 mile fun run! By participating in the Bun Run you will help support Wesley UMC's mission work.

Our local mission programs include ALLOT which is a store that El Reno teachers can get classroom supplies at no cost; Blessing Boxes-15 food pantry boxes located throughout El Reno to help the hungry; Book Mobile giving free books to area children; Dolly Imagination Library Affiliate; and we also have local mission teams to help people in the community with yard cleanup and house repairs. Our foreign teams work with and support the Hands Together ministry that builds schools, medical clinics, homes, and community centers for the impoverished people of Northern Mexico. We always look for ways to support our community and schools. This run is in conjunction with the El Reno Burger Day Festival. This festival is held downtown El Reno just one block west of the Bun Run. Enjoy multiple stages of entertainment/music, games, rides, antique car show, merchants, and food. Witness the cooking of the world's largest fried onion hamburger, weighing in at over 750 pounds. DATE & START TIME

Come run with decorated buns AND WIN a 1st or 2nd PLACE PRIZE! Glitter, glue, tassel, or tutu. Decorate the back of your running shorts in our 5K or fun run and if you have the best decorated buns, you can win a Fancy Pants prize! (All buns must be covered with clothing--no exposed buns please!)

You may also register and pick up your race packet the morning of the race starting at 7:30am. Registration fee increase $5 on race day.

Alright, now we're going full barbecue.

This photo was taken in front of Wesley United Methodist Church, which — judging by the context — must’ve recently added a new ministry: “The First Church of Sanctified Sandwiches.” Because nothing says faith and devotion like a six-foot hoagie shaking hands with Jesus on a Tuesday afternoon.

That building? It screams “we spent all the budget on beige.” The architecture is so aggressively bland it makes drywall seem spicy. If a tax return took physical form, it’d be this church. The most exciting thing happening here is the shadow of that overhang — and even it looks like it’s trying to escape.

Also, who approved the idea of this sandwich menace doing laps in the parking lot? Was there a committee meeting where someone said, “You know what would really bring the spirit of the Lord? A cursed Subway mascot with jazz hands.” And everyone agreed?

And what’s with that cross on the building? It’s giving off real “we just learned how ClipArt works” energy. That’s not a beacon of hope — that’s a logo your nephew slapped together in Microsoft Paint.

This whole scene is like a fever dream brought on by too many communion wafers and not enough hydration.

Our Story

Wesley UMC’s 6th annual Bun Run is being held Saturday, May 4th in conjunction with El Reno's 31st annual Fried Onion Burger Day Festival. The Event One Mile Fun Run/Walk 8:30am 5K 9:00am Make it a weekend and come visit El Reno's small town hospitality and atmosphere! After the run on Saturday stay for Burger Day. Enjoy entertainment/music, games, rides, antique car show, merchants, and food from 10:00am to 5:00pm. And witness the cooking of the world's largest fried onion hamburger, weighing in at over 750lbs. So mark your calendar for Saturday, May 4th!

5K entry fee-$30 and Race Day registration fee $35 1mile fun run/walk-$25 Registration includes the Wesley UMC Bun Run T-shirt (So sorry, but T-shirt size and availability will not be guaranteed if you register on race day) Packet Pickup Friday May 3rd from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Wesley UMC (101 S. Barker Avenue, El Reno, OK 73036) or on Race Day at the race site
