We would like to thank Kentana and her Mom Tawanna for donating Girl Scouts cookies to us.

The residents were sure to share stories on how they would buy the cookies at local grocery stores or the Farmers Markets where they could support Girl Scouts for years.

We appreciate your donation and can safely say they were a hit in our community!

Kentucky Derby??? Naaaa… at Serenity South of Elba we apparently prefer the more elite event… the Flamingo Derby. 🦩

Why did we have a Flamingo Derby, you ask? Because somewhere between activities, snacks, back porch sitting, and everyday life… we completely forgot the Kentucky Derby existed until it was already over. So naturally, we improvised.

This activity did NOT disappoint. We had sibling rivalries, resident vs. resident face-offs, and even a grandmother vs. granddaughter showdown that quickly became the main event of the afternoon.

The competition was fierce. The flamingos were flying. The crowd was invested. Friendships were almost tested.

In the final round, Byrdie Forbes looked like she had the championship secured… until her flamingo suddenly gave up under pressure and took a dramatic fall mid-race. Meanwhile, “Nanna” Pam McCollough stayed focused, steady, and gracefully secured the victory like the seasoned professional she is.

Congratulations to our Flamingo Derby Champion, Pam McCollough, with Byrdie Forbes coming in a very close second place!

A huge thank you to Stephanie from Compassus for always helping turn my random activity ideas and shenanigans into reality. At this point, I’m convinced she just waits to see what chaos I come up with next.

One thing about Serenity South of Elba… we may not always remember the national holidays, but we will absolutely create memories, laughter, and a good time together.

On to the next adventure! 💚🍃

You are going to want to stick around for this one… 💚🍃

10 months. TEN MONTHS.

For 10 months I have tried to figure out how in the world I could safely get my sweet residents loaded up, out of the building, and somewhere together to just enjoy life outside these walls again.

Something simple to most people can feel nearly impossible when you are responsible for making sure everyone is safe, comfortable, and cared for every single step of the way.

Well tonight… God showed out.

Mrs. Lynn Baker invited us to attend church to watch the children’s choir at First Baptist Church of Elba.

But the invitation didn’t stop there… she said, “I’ll send the church bus to pick y’all up.”

BABY WHAT?! I said absolutely!!! You tell me the time and date and I’ll have these ladies and gentleman READY.

Every resident was invited and encouraged to go multiple times throughout the day, but after such a busy and eventful afternoon, many were simply too tired and honestly, some may have been a little unsure since this was our very first outing together. And I can’t blame them one bit.

But SIX of them said, “Let’s go.”

And tonight… my heart could hardly handle it.

Three of those six sat in a church pew tonight for the first time in a very long time.

As the children sang, I kept glancing over at them, and they were completely wrapped up in the moment. Smiling. Watching. Soaking it all in.

And right there in that pew, I fought back tears.
Because this is what it’s about.

Moments.
Joy.
Feeling included.
Feeling remembered.
Feeling alive.

Not only were we welcomed with open arms tonight, but we were also told that same bus is available anytime we want to go somewhere again. “Just call us.”

Do y’all understand what a blessing that is?

Thank you so much to First Baptist Church of Elba for welcoming us with such kindness and recognizing our residents while we were there.

Thank you to the sweet youth and gentlemen who helped load and unload everyone with such patience and care.

Thank you Mr. Hudson for safely getting us there and back… potholes and all. 😂

And Mrs. Lynn Baker… thank you for making one phone call that turned into a memory none of us will ever forget.

And listen… if y’all happen to see us in Panama City Beach this summer with one resident in a speedo and the others in bikinis… they told me to tell ya’ll to mind your business because they are GROWN.

Tonight, after working 14 hours straight trying to make sure everything today went smoothly, I’m laying down with the fullest and most grateful heart.

This little hometown community continues to bless me beyond measure in the way they love and care for the people I get the privilege to serve every single day.

And I will never stop being thankful for that. ❤️

Monday was filled with fresh flowers, sweet smiles, and the kind of joy that only comes from moments spent together.

Watching our residents create their own beautiful arrangements was a reminder that it’s the little things color, laughter, and time shared that truly brighten a day.

Each bloom placed with care, each smile a reflection of the happiness these moments bring… this is what “home” feels like.

A very special thank you to Dawn Lunsford, Volunteer Coordinator with DaySpring Hospice, for bringing these beautiful flowers and even more importantly, bringing joy, love, and kindness into our home. Your thoughtfulness truly made our day extra special.

I’ve received several calls about the fire department being at the facility, so I wanted to quickly reassure everyone we are perfectly okay and there is no emergency.

We experienced a few power outages that caused our system to alert for possible smoke in the duct system, along with an issue with the AC unit. Out of an abundance of caution, we contacted the fire department to come out and thoroughly check the attic and equipment. Everything checked out just fine, and it appears it was all related to the power interruptions.

Most importantly, our residents are safe and were not alarmed one bit honestly, they probably thought it was just one of my shenanigans again 🤷🏼‍♀️

A big thank you to the Elba Fire Department for always being quick to respond and making sure our home stays safe. We truly appreciate all that you do for our community!

We have been brainstorming for a while now on what we wanted to do for the patio with spring and summer right around the corner. It had gotten a little dreary… to the point that some sweet souls even put artificial flowers in the pots just so we’d have something pretty to look at (and y’all already know I can’t even keep an artificial plant alive 😅).

I had someone ready to help bring our vision to life once I came up with a solid plan… but yesterday, out of the blue, I was called to the back patio for the sweetest surprise. Raeann showed up and completely blessed us without me knowing a thing.

Today, they are hard at work turning our little space into something beautiful… a place for our residents to relax, laugh, and enjoy these sunny days ahead.

So if you need us anytime soon… just know we’ll be on the back patio sipping sweet tea, soaking up the sunshine, and playing a little Jesus
