Kentucky Derby??? Naaaa… at Serenity South of Elba we apparently prefer the more elite event… the Flamingo Derby. 🦩
Why did we have a Flamingo Derby, you ask? Because somewhere between activities, snacks, back porch sitting, and everyday life… we completely forgot the Kentucky Derby existed until it was already over. So naturally, we improvised.
This activity did NOT disappoint. We had sibling rivalries, resident vs. resident face-offs, and even a grandmother vs. granddaughter showdown that quickly became the main event of the afternoon.
The competition was fierce. The flamingos were flying. The crowd was invested. Friendships were almost tested.
In the final round, Byrdie Forbes looked like she had the championship secured… until her flamingo suddenly gave up under pressure and took a dramatic fall mid-race. Meanwhile, “Nanna” Pam McCollough stayed focused, steady, and gracefully secured the victory like the seasoned professional she is.
Congratulations to our Flamingo Derby Champion, Pam McCollough, with Byrdie Forbes coming in a very close second place!
A huge thank you to Stephanie from Compassus for always helping turn my random activity ideas and shenanigans into reality. At this point, I’m convinced she just waits to see what chaos I come up with next.
One thing about Serenity South of Elba… we may not always remember the national holidays, but we will absolutely create memories, laughter, and a good time together.
On to the next adventure! 💚🍃
