Dr. Dan McAvoy has been honored with the 2024/2025 Exemplary Teaching Award, recognizing his outstanding excellence in medical education based on student evaluations. This prestigious recognition reflects his unwavering commitment to mentoring and shaping the next generation of physicians.

As a teaching facility, we are especially grateful for Dr. McAvoy’s dedication to guiding medical students during their rotations and for the meaningful impact he makes every day in both patient care and education.

We were honored to celebrate this special moment alongside many who play an important role in medical education and in Dr. McAvoy’s life. He is pictured with his wife, Margaret McAvoy, who proudly supported him at the presentation. The award was presented by Dr. Shelley Nuss, Founding Dean of the UGA School of Medicine and Campus Dean of the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership. In addition, Dr. McAvoy is pictured with Elberton native Julie Gaines, Full Professor and Campus Director of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership Campus Library in Athens.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. McAvoy on this well-deserved and prestigious recognition. We are incredibly proud of you!
