Last day of studio yoga!!

Join Kela at 4:30PM for hot yoga!

Between 5:15-7, Kela will be at the studio if you want to stop by and say hi and grab some merch.

7PM is our closing ceremony. This will not be hot, it will be light yoga and discussion of your favorite memories of the studio.

Followed by Al’s for burger baskets. If you plan on eating at Al’s, let us know so we can tell our friends down the street how many to accompany for.

I’m not even sure what year this was — but how fun! We’ve had so many fun moments throughout the years at Backwards, and the friendships I’ve made through yoga and the studio— hands down the best investment of the studio. To those who walked in as strangers and walked out as lifetime friends. I am forever grateful for you 💜

One of my absolute favorite things is living in a small town. I’m from Donahue, and if you know, it’s the best small town in Iowa. It may be weird for some, but not me. Small town life is where it’s at. It’s where you can quickly call your neighbor and say, “hey crap I forgot I have this, can you let my dog out quick?” Or a, “hey, I haven’t heard from the old guy on the corner, has anyone checked on him?” And that is allllll normal. The crew in a small town vibes different because the loyalty and love runs deep.

I received the North Scott Chambers Small Business Award of 2023. And it was one of my best moments of being a business owner - not just because of how I run my business, but the energy and effort I put back into this community. At backwards yoga, we give back. It’s not just the yoga in us. We donate to all the things, for all the years. We donate money, time and effort. And don’t get me going on an auction, because iykyk. Because without people doing that, how are things going to look in a small town? It’s not about the money. It’s about spending your time in the community and giving back to this amazing community. 💜

Little update to the studio life—

Our original plan was last day of classes would be Sat the 4th with a little ceremony….but through talking to our peeps — it seems a Thursday is better!!

Last day of official classes will be Thursday the 2nd (4:30PM!)

We are also hosting a 7PM closing ceremony…..more details to follow. But we thought an official closing ceremony to remember the good times would be a great send off!

Listening on repeat this am. 💜

Go show our girl some love!

For every daughter and daughter-in-law ever tasked with keeping a peace she was never given— this one is for us. It is an honor to be the one who holds the mirror. Run, black sheep— be free. 🩸🤠

My brand new album, Blood Disease, is here. These are my stories, my experiences, my truth, and my art. I hope you’ll listen and find yourself in these 10 songs. Share them with the people in your life who resonate with family trauma. Every theme on this album is multi-generational in my experience. It is our duty to learn from and stop toxic cycles.

A special shoutout to each and every one of my muses- dead or alive. No song is about just one person, but if you’re wondering if a song is about you— it definitely is. And I’m proud of you for recognizing and finally owning up to your s**t behavior. Your true legacy lives on through me— what a beautiful thing it is to be the woman holding the mirror, the pen, and the microphone. “I could never miss what you’d never be- so don’t hold your breath for the black sheep.”

Behind Backwards Yoga

Mindfulness. Alignment. Breath. Flow. Relaxation. Community.

Backwards Yoga, located in Eldridge, Iowa, offers vinyasa yoga classes for all levels. These include non-hot yoga classes, hot classes (ranging from 80-105 degrees), a variety of workshops designed to deepen your practice, cardio & Bootcamp classes, private yoga sessions, and private group sessions. We are also a Yoga Alliance certified school and offer teacher training programs for 200-hour certification. Our creative and friendly instructors offer challenging classes to improve flexibility, strength and balance for the mind and body.

Backwards Yoga’s owner, Kela Ganzer, is a North Scott graduate and grew up in rural Scott County. Her parents are Dean and Tina Ganzer of Donahue, IA. Kela grew up with back pain her entire life while being diagnosed with scoliosis at an early age. At the age of 12, she went through a spinal fusion surgery, in which they placed 2-13 inch rods along her spine to straighten the curvature. After her surgery, Kela was limited to mild sports and exercise. While Kela entered college, she decided to try yoga for the back pain of carrying her book bag across campus. She instantly felt the pain relieved through her spine. She continued her journey through college and decided to share her love for yoga with others. She has since completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance certificate, 500-hour Yoga Alliance certificate, Pre-natal Certificate, and SUP Yoga Certificate.

Ganzer wanted to give back to her North Scott community by starting a small yoga class while renting space at the local daycare in 2014. It was here that the desire to grow the yoga community started. Backwards Yoga evolved into a hot studio in July 2015 in the downtown area. We have become an extended family and offer each of our community members a yogi experience. Eldridge has embraced the studio and given us our unique small town feel. Our atmosphere is welcoming and open to all levels of yogis. We are proudly serving the Quad City area and encourage people from Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, Moline, and Dewitt to come out to Eldridge and see why we are worth the trip.
