You can educate yourself, train, get the doula, have the dream team, but most importantly you must surrender.

The more we try to control how birth will go, the more resistance there can be.

You worry and feel anxious, maybe question if things will really pan out.

And we don't know how it will all go. There are things you can do to try and hopefully help the birth go the way you want, but nothing is a guarantee.

Surrendering is the key. Letting go of the control will give you peace.

It sounds scary, I know. But it is true!

We have to trust that no matter what God has a plan and we know His plans are good for those who love him.

He is the Creator who is going to carry you through.

Let go and let God hold you❤️

I cannot tell you how many times I hear,

"You're just a doula. What do you know?"

Oooooh boy does that get my blood BOILING🔥

The old me wants to retaliate and go off, but that isn't me anymore.

Plus, I know my worth. I know my knowledge and experience has value.

I come on social media to educate and encourage women going through pregnancy and postpartum. Yet so many will push their own opinions and try to degrade me like I don't know what I am talking about.

As doulas, we see so much. We see the beauty of birth and the trauma that can be caused. We see when the process derails and when it is wonderfully supported. We see birth in homes, birth centers and hospitals. We hold mothers through their powerful moments and their heart breaking ones.

We are so much more than "just a doula"

I swear this is every dad's number one concern...

What if the baby comes out while driving to the birthing facility??

Aaaaaaaaahhhh!!!

Actually, it doesn't have to be as scary as you think. Normally when babies are coming this quickly, everything is fine!

But if you want to be prepared for an accidental car birth, here is what you should do:

🚗Have towels or blankets in the car
You will want these to help protect your car seats and to
help dry off baby and maintained body temperature.

🚗Pull over and call 911
Unless you are about to drive up to the entrance, the
safest thing would be to stop and get emergency
services. They can help walk you through steps if needed
to help mom and baby before paramedics arrive.

🚗Leave the umbilical cord alone
The cord does not need to be cut or tied off or anything.
Blood and oxygen are still pumping into baby after
being born.

🚗Put baby skin to skin with mom
This will help baby stabilize and keep baby warm.
Depending on the cord length, baby can be placed
on mom's chest or abdomen.

Hope this helps someone feel more prepared in case of a fun car birth!

This was such a great example of how birth in the hospital can be.

Now I wish I could say this was the norm, but the reality is that it's not🫤

What I want to drive home here is that it can! Knowing your rights and how to advocate for yourself are so important in order for you to have the control of your birth experience.
