Leading nonprofit global association for professionals providing equine-assisted psychotherapy.
Eagala Certification is The Global Standard for Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Personal Development. Join the Eagala Network of over 4,500 members in 50 countries who are changing lives through the unique intuitive power of horses. Under The Eagala Model, both a licensed, certified Mental Health Professional and a certified Equine Specialist work together collaboratively at all times to assure clients get the therapeutic attention and support they need as they make life changes. The Eagala Model is built on the premise that it's the client who best determines the kinds of life changes they need to make in order to improve their life. The job of the Eagala treatment team is to put The Eagala Model to work to meet the client's goals by engaging the sensitivity of horses to help them understand their process and practice the changes they want to make in a safe, supportive setting. Because all Eagala sessions are done on the ground - there is no riding involved - this work provides a growing opportunity for horses of all abilities to have a role and purpose. This amazing work benefits the lives of both the horses and humans. Through your support, we can continue to expand access to these services worldwide.

We want to honor a group whose work has been nothing short of heroic: our Military Program Partners serving veterans through the Adaptive Sports Grant and the Wounded Warrior Project across 17 states.
Since 2017, these Eagala Teams have been the boots on the ground, providing equine-assisted psychotherapy to veterans year after year. While research teams analyzed outcomes, these partners were delivering sessions, collecting data, and holding space—session by session, story by story. Their consistency turned research from an idea into a reality grounded in lived experience.
Over the years, they have delivered more than 10,250 (!) Eagala sessions to approximately 1,700 veterans, creating safe spaces for healing, growth, and connection. This work didn’t just support research, it changed lives.
We are deeply grateful for your perseverance, compassion, and unwavering service. Because of you, veterans found healing, and the world now has the evidence to prove it.

Did you know that key components of the Year of the Fire Horse are connection and community? If you're not connecting to your Eagala community via LinkedIn, who knows what you might be missing -- shared concerns, mutual motivation, opportunities to find Eagala team mates, resources for your EAP practice.
The work we do matters… as does staying connected. Follow Eagala on LinkedIn for thoughtful conversations, emerging research, and professional stories that remind us why this model changes lives.

National Hugging Day? Any chance we can change the name to "International Hug-A-Horse Day"?!
Eagala practitioners know that hugging or interacting with horses has significant somatic (body-based) value, promoting stress reduction, emotional regulation, and self-awareness through neurochemical releases (like oxytocin) and co-regulation of the nervous system. That makes hugging a horse a powerful tool in therapies like Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP).
Horses, being sensitive and non-judgmental, help humans connect to the present moment and their own bodies, releasing physical tension and fostering feelings of safety and calm. So, go on, hug a horse today! 🐴🤗

Hey, herd members who are working for, running, or volunteering at a nonprofit organization, we’d love to hear from you! Please help us better understand what you’re looking forin terms of nonprofit guidance and learning, so Eagala can make sure we’re supporting those needs as best we can!
We posted this Question of the Week a while back and are still collecting responses. (For those of you who responded to this question in a recent Word in the Herd e-newsletter, no need to chime in again -- we have your response -- thank you!)
Behind every strong psychotherapy model and practice is strong research. Accordingly, we’re grateful for the incredible work of Eagala's Research Committee.
From curating research and updating our bibliography to supporting member-led projects and building new tools, this team ensures that our work is not only inspiring, but credible, measurable, and respected.
These go-getters help chart where EAP has been and where it's headed. Individually and collectively, they each bring rigor, patience, and deep commitment to Eagala's mission every step of the way.
Herdmates, by commenting below, you can join us in thanking the Research Committee for their behind-the-scenes brilliance and dedication. Here’s to the trail ahead.

Getting an Eagala Military designation requires 30 hours of cultural competence training. We are often asked by Eagala members who weren't part of the military but want to support the military in their practices, "How do I get these hours?"
Recently, several of our members offered the following suggestions:
- "In my area they have an annual program 'Veterans Voices' where veterans read stories , poems and music about their experiences. Also, you can look up Big Lux...
he is a veteran who does hip hop music with a violin expressing the conflict between being back at home and being in a combat zone."
- "PsychArmor webinars and videos... joining your local CVEB (Community Veterans Engagement Board) ... attending their meetings. Also, engaging with (in the U.S.) State Veteran Services Boards."
