Your hips don’t lie and your back and pelvic floor may be paying price

If your hips aren’t strong enough to do the job, your low back muscles and pelvic floor muscles often pick up the slack.

Overworked back muscles get tight and cranky. Overworked pelvic floor muscles clench and have difficulty coordinating, which shows up as p*e or p**p problems or even pain with sitting.

When all the parts of our hips are strong they help support our core system.

When all parts of our hIps are strong they can share the load instead of dumping it on our back and pelvic floor.

So no, your back isn’t fragile, and you don’t need to stretch more. Your hips just need to pull their weight!

Comment "hips" if you need some@help and want to learn more!

I get asked a lot, how do you strengthen the pelvic floor? To which I wonder, does your pelvic floor actually need strength?

Your pelvic floor doesn’t work alone, it’s part of a system.

Think of it like a trampoline 🏃‍♀️
(Analogy from )

The fabric is your pelvic floor… but the springs, frame, and support around it matter just as much AND influence how that fabric behaves.

Your pelvic floor is influenced by all the other systems in our body. So when something is “off,” it’s rarely just a pelvic floor problem, it’s the system asking for support.

Its my role as pelvic floor physical therapist to look at the whole picture, not just one muscle group. When the system works together, everything feels better. 💫

👇 What part of the system surprises you most?

As 2025 comes to a close, I want to pause for a moment. Not for the big milestones or highlight-reel moments, but for the quiet wins.

The ones no one else clapped for.
The ones no one witnessed.
The ones that felt small but took a lot of courage.

Maybe it was:
• Asking for help
• Listening to your body
• Showing up on a hard day
• Advocating for yourself
• Choosing rest when you needed it

Those wins count. 💛

Before we step into a new year, I’d love to know
👇 What was your quiet win in 2025?

Drop it in the comments and let’s celebrate each other.

Tailbone pain is the worst. Sitting is excruciating, sleeping is uncomfortable, it can stay irritated for hours, days, or weeks!

it might show up after pregnancy, or childbirth, a fall or an injury, hours of sitting like a road trip, or a host of other things.

So tell me how did your tailbone pain start?

And did you know pelvic floor therapy can help fix it??

“Take a breath!” We’ve all heard that before or maybe even said it to our kiddos.

How you breathe matters! Not just for air but for our pelvic floor and our nervous system.

When we shallow or chest breathe it can signal we are in “go mode” or stressful or tense situations.

Changing the mechanics of your breathing can signal to your body that it’s safe to slow down, unclench muscles, and rest & digest.

Try this 360 Rib breathing and let me know how it feels!

If it feels hard, confusing, or your ribs don’t move well, that’s good information and gives us a road map of what to work on in pelvic floor physical therapy!

Why is it so hard to talk about p*e, p**p, or intimacy…
when they’re literally part of being human? 🤷‍♀️

So many of us were taught that these topics are “private,” “awkward,” or something to just deal with quietly. But here’s the truth:
💧 How you p*e
💩 How you p**p
💗 How intimacy feels
…are not embarrassing details, they’re important clues about your health.

Frequent bathroom trips, constipation, pain with s*x, leaking, or pressure are often signs that your pelvic floor and core need support. Ignoring them doesn’t make them go away, it just delays getting help and often makes things worse!

The good news?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is designed for exactly this. It’s a judgment-free space where these conversations are normal, welcomed, and used to guide real solutions.

You deserve providers who listen, explain, and help, not ones who make you feel rushed or uncomfortable.

So I encourage you to
✨ Ask the question
✨ Say the awkward thing
✨ Get the support

Your body has been talking, pelvic floor PT helps you finally understand what it’s saying. 💕

A little reminder that the six week postpartum appointment is a check-in, not a finish line!

Somewhere along the way the six week visit got treated like the magical moment you’re supposed to feel “back to normal“ ready for workouts, ready for intimacy, work, and all the other things like you didn’t just carry a baby for 9 months and go through the marathon of labor.
Your body is still recovering.
Your pelvic floor is still adjusting.
Your hormones are still shifting.
Your energy sleep, and identity are still finding their new rhythm.

So if you go into that appointment, feeling tender, tired, leaky, sore, emotional, or simply just not yourself please know that you’re not behind, you are a normal human !

if you are craving support, guidance, or a plan that helps your body feel strong and steady again, I’m here for you. Reach out anytime, you don’t have to navigate the fourth trimester alone!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ended up with in your pockets?

Being a mom is challenging, joyous, and a wild adventure. You need to make sure you always have snacks and pockets 😂
