Should you track your calories? 🤔

Short answer… it depends.

For some people, tracking feels overwhelming and unnecessary.

• Helps you hit protein + calorie targets consistently

they struggle because they’re overwhelmed.

Everywhere you look there’s new rules, new diets, new “don’t eat this / only eat that” advice. It’s exhausting. And it makes starting feel way harder than it needs to be.

But here’s the truth… it’s never been about doing everything perfectly.
It’s about doing the basics consistently.

Eat more veggies.
Don’t skip breakfast.
Watch your portions.
Choose healthier fats.
Stay consistent.

Nothing fancy. Nothing extreme.
Just small decisions, repeated daily, that actually move the needle.

That’s how real progress is built. Not through restriction… but through simple habits you can stick to.

Most people try to change their habits by focusing on outcomes.

“I want to lose weight.”
“I want to get stronger.”
“I want to be more consistent.”

But research in behavioral psychology shows that long-term behavior change is driven more by identity than goals.

This is known as identity-based habit formation.

Instead of focusing only on what you want to achieve, you focus on who you believe you are.

Because your brain is constantly trying to stay consistent with your identity.

If you identify as:
“I’m someone who struggles to stay consistent”
…your actions will match that belief.

But if you begin to shift toward:
“I’m someone who shows up, even when it’s hard”
…your behaviors start to align with that identity.

This is why short-term motivation fades, but identity lasts.

From a neuroscience standpoint, repeated behaviors strengthen neural pathways through neuroplasticity, making actions feel more automatic over time.

Translation:
The more you act like the person you want to become…
the more your brain starts to believe that’s who you are.

Try this:

• Instead of asking “Do I feel like working out?”
→ ask “What would someone who trains consistently do?”

• Focus on completing actions, not chasing motivation

Identity shapes behavior.
Behavior builds consistency.
Consistency builds results.
