Let's talk mental health. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Your mind is a muscle that needs attention. Mental health is not a weakness. The events occurring in our world can be stressful and lonely. Remember, you are not alone. We are here to listen.

Individuals have their own unique identity. We are here to help you on your journey of becoming self-aware and achieving your goals for a healthier life. Many of us are offering Telehealth services during this time. Take the first step by contacting a counselor in your area.

Social Distancing does not mean full quarantine. During this important time, get creative with social habits. We have technology that brings friends and family together all over the world. Go outside when the weather is nice. Meet a friend to go on a walk or hike, but practice distancing and drive separate cars to the destination. Take the time to knock off some of the chores that need to be done around the house. Most importantly reach out to someone if you are feeling anxious, sad, or just need to talk. Professional counselors serve as advocates for our communities. Do not hesitate to give a local therapist a call.

Panic disorder is characterized by recurring, sudden attacks of anxiety and overwhelming fear that last for several minutes. During these attacks, people may feel like their heart is pounding, they may start sweating, and they may feel as though they can’t breathe or think. Panic disorder can disrupt daily life, but following a treatment plan can help people manage their symptoms. Here are some things that can help:

• Whether or not one is working or studying remotely, it can be helpful to continue a daily schedule and routine as much as possible. Eating regular meals, following consistent sleep/wake times, and staying active can help support well-being.
• Be sure to continue to follow your treatment plan. If the treatment plan includes prescription medication, budget extra time for getting prescriptions refilled.
• Many mental health care providers offer phone- or web-based appointments as alternatives to in-person visits. Ask your health care provider if these alternatives may be an option for you.

As the pandemic affects numerous facets of our society, it also impacts each person in different ways. If you need support coping with the events of the last few weeks, there is advice and help available. For those with mental illnesses, be sure to continue your treatment regimens. Consider developing a plan for telehealth sessions with your provider. It is also important to realize that social distancing does not have to mean social isolation, especially with modern technologies available to many of us. Connecting with our friends and loved ones, whether by high tech means or through simple phone calls, can help us maintain ties during stressful days ahead and will give us strength to weather this difficult passage.
