Meet Our Providers:

Kelly Thomas, LMFT

I consider it a calling and a privilege to be able to hold space for my clients during their darkest and brightest times. To be able to help them shine a light on all the possibilities and potential around them and help them find and be their best selves.

I am licensed in the states of Tennessee and North Carolina as a Marriage and Family Therapist. With over 16 years in the field, I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in various stages of their journey. I am a trained practitioner in TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention) and am passionate about helping families connect, communicate, and help each other grow. I hold a Master's Degree in Counseling from ETSU and have also been trained in behavioral modification techniques through Florida Institute of Technology.

I offer a safe, accepting and non-judgmental environment for my clients. There is nothing too big or too small to bring into the counseling space to explore and navigate together. My areas of knowledge are anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, grief, family issues, parenting issues /coaching, low self-esteem and adjustment issues. I currently work with clients ages 12 and up, utilizing a Cognitive/Behavioral approach while including relevant techniques for the individual's needs.

I've grown up here in East Tennessee and love my community and its people! Please reach out to me so I can walk your healing path with you.

The future is unwritten-Joe Strummer

I believe there is so much power in these words! The fact that, while I may have difficulties and hurts that have and/or continue to add unwanted weight to my journey, every second is a new and potential step toward a day and life well-lived!

I am a Tennessee State Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Health Service Provider with a passion for the privilege of journeying with others through difficulties. I founded what is now Elizabethton Counseling and Arts Center in 2014. Over the past decade, we have grown and continue to grow into a small practice focused on providing a comfortable, healing and personal therapeutic environment.

I have over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents/teens, and adults and specialize in depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, grief, lifelong illness, couple’s/family issues, low self-view, spiritual issues, behavioral issues in children, and adjustment. I currently see individuals of all ages and deeply enjoy working with a diverse population of people. I have worked as a contracted referral therapist for St Jude for over 8 years and have had experience with childhood illness through the Johnson City affiliate.

I am existentially-focused with an eclectic theoretic approach, utilizing Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive/Behavioral, and Exposure therapies to guide a uniquely individualized plan for each person I work with. While traditional sessions are offered, I also offer art-focused and movement-focused session work that include creating through painting, sketching, coloring, music, and a variety of other arts. I also offer different movement options that include outdoor and walking sessions.

I strongly believe you should feel comfortable with the therapist you choose and hopeful about the therapy you receive. Engagement and alignment are the cornerstones of a thriving therapeutic process and you, the client, are the foundation and priority.

Call, text, or email to begin your healing journey! You’re future is unwritten!

Meet our Providers:

Amanda K. Chapman, LPC/MHSP

I am an experienced Licensed Professional Counselor in TN, HeartMath Certified Practitioner and a Certified Forest Therapy Guide by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT). I've devoted my life's work to providing a presence, a listening ear, and an objective voice for support and guidance, both within a traditional counseling setting indoors, as well as outdoors in the Appalachian Mountains. I am able to assist with life adjustments, setting healthy boundaries, dealing with loss of all types, and learning new perspectives and strategies.

For almost 30 years having worked in a variety of backgrounds, I have been committed to helping people of all walks of life deal with depression, anxiety, stress, loss, and life transitions. I work primarily with adults, and my areas of specialty include Self-Discovery, Recovery from Codependency, Stress Management, and Walk and Talk Therapy. Often taking the first step can be the hardest part, especially during times when we feel overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, or grief-stricken, and I would be honored to assist you if you so choose. I work in collaboration with my clients, focusing on goals that one can grow, such as self-worth, healthy relationships, body positivity, a unique voice, and a meaningful purpose. I believe that we are far more capable than we realize, that we hold the key, and I will strive to help you remember that.

In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am a Certified HeartMath Practitioner, as well as a Certified Forest Therapy Guide by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT). I am currently certified in CPR and Wilderness First Aid, and I see clients within a traditional office setting, or in nature settings via Walk and Talk Therapy. I practice non-judgment, acceptance, and offer a safe environment. I understand and acknowledge the vulnerability that is often present in my counseling space, and I wish to honor that. I'm far from perfect, but I try to continually work on myself in the areas of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual realms of health, in order that I may be of the best help for you!

Having spent most of my life in the Appalachian Mountains, I love to help my fellow Humans encounter wholeness and well-being by way of embodiment and nature connection practices in the More Than Human World. With all of modern life's distractions and non-stop activity, simply being, which may mean stillness or moving slowly in nature, can open the senses and deepen the relationship with one's self and with others, ultimately enhancing health and happiness. Being in nature's world may bring a sense of relief from all the everyday stresses of life, connect us, and begin to fill our hearts with light and love for ourselves and the world around us.

If my words resonate with you, or you have any questions about the above, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Meet our Providers:

Patricia Starbird, LPC/MHSP

Patricia has a passion to work with individuals who have experienced trauma, depression, and anxiety. She believes we've all experienced trauma, whether it's the obvious events one would think of as trauma or the seemingly less impactful experience of not being positively encouraged as a child, or perhaps being told we won't amount to anything or even being compared to a sibling. All those events give powerful negative messages such as "I'm not good enough," "I don't deserve good things or relationships," or "My needs don't matter." Those messages sink to our core and try to tell us who we are. Hence, the reason so many people experience low self- esteem or lack of motivation to strive for healthier relationships. You may struggle to clarify why you're unhappy. Some say, "I had a good childhood" or "There wasn't anything in particular I can point to that makes me unhappy." Many report just going through the motions of daily life without feeling much joy.

If this sounds familiar to you, there's good news! There are specialized therapies which can get to the roots of the issues, and Patricia has the training and certification in specialty therapies to get to the root, not just let some pressure off. Unless those negative messages are healed at the root, they'll resurface. Patricia excels at locating the root of the problem. In order to get the appropriate treatment that will foster long-term change and healing, the root of the problem must first be identified.
Patricia provides a warm, welcoming environment that's nonjudgmental. She has demonstrated dedication to her clients for nearly thirty years and has seen people receive emotional healing they never thought possible.

Patricia has a Master's degree in counseling from the University of North Carolina @ Greensboro, a program that continues to be rated in the top ten counseling programs in the nation. Additionally she obtained a Graduate Certificate in Biblical Studies from Liberty University. That combination provides for both emotional and spiritual needs to be addressed. Often, clients are surprised to discover those two areas are intertwined.
Patricia provides a variety of treatment methods but relies heavily on EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy). It's successful in treating trauma, anxiety & panic attacks, grief, low self-esteem, and depression which has been resistant to medication. Patricia is certified in EMDR therapy from the organization founded by Francine Shapiro, the developer of EMDR therapy. Patricia was trained and supervised by some of the professionals who were trained by Dr. Shapiro herself. Not only is Patricia's training and certification solid, but she has decades of experience delivering EMDR therapy shaped by some of the professionals who have authored books on the subject. This certification extends reassurance to her clients that she far surpasses the minimum training and experience to provide proven, advanced techniques to relieve symptoms of emotional distress.

Patricia utilizes other therapies as well, including Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, Gestalt, ACT, Mindfulness and Stress Management. High on her priority list is helping her clients to develop coping skills that work with their unique situations and communication styles.

Patricia has a special interest in working with clients who struggle with treatment -resistant symptoms. Too often clients have been in therapy for years without the level of healing they hoped for. This is often a result of having the symptoms treated but never getting to the root of the problem. Patricia's approach to therapy addresses the root cause of the problem, not simply the symptoms. Treatment-resistant depression can be driven by negative self-beliefs such as "I'm not good enough," "It's my fault," or chronic regret that is stuck. When the negative messages are resolved, the depressive symptoms begin to lift. The same is true for anxiety, grief and loss, abuse and trauma, transitions in life, spiritual issues and struggles with self-forgiveness. However, the root cause of the problem must first be identified and that is an area where Patricia excels.

Daytime and evening appointments are offered. Occasional Saturday appointments are offered.
